ok, now here's the setup: 2 desktops and 1 laptop are in the house. 1 desktop is plugged directly into the wireless router while the other 2 computers connect wirelessly. Both of the wireless computers get found by the ps3 EVERYtime. Only the pc that's wired into the router gets found only about 50% of the time! Problem with this is that's the pc with 2tb HD, so it's the one with all the shows and movies.
I've played with a bunch of settings but nothing seems to "turn on" the connection to the ps3. It just seems like a random chance thing! I searched for ages for a problem like mine but i haven't found one yet so i'm asking here! Anyone have an idea to make the ps3 find my desktop 100% of the time?
cheers!

What operating system is on the PC?
What kind of media server software is it running?
What brand/model is your router?
Is the PS3 wired or wireless?

Hmm. The fact that it works 50% of the time rather argues against it being a firewall or router setting. Even so, have you tried temporarily turning off your windows firewall?
Have you upgraded your desktop PC to XP service pack 3?
Are you using automatic (dhcp) settings to configure the network card on the desktop PC?
Have you placed the PCs network connection into a zone? (ie Home, Work or Public?)
When it is working, what do you think of WMP11?
I use and recommmend Playstation Media Server
There is also a program called TVersity but I know nothing about that.
Check out the How to. The DLNA Thread thread.
If all else fails, upgrade your desktop to Windows 7 or Linux. Media streaming really wasn't invented when XP came out. It should work (as your other desktop shows) but it's a bit hit and miss.

My ps3 will not find my laptop for streaming, It has always worked absolutely fine until the latest playstation update, since the update i scan for media servers for my laptop, and zero, nothing, cant find it at all, has been working great for the last year no issues at all, can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem since the update?

What operating system are you using on your laptop?
What media software is it using?
What brand/model is your modem&/router?
What are the results of an Internet Connection Test?
Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Test
Have you tried any of the suggestions in the thread above?

I am using windows 7 professional, playstation media, thompson router TG585, the internet works fine as my son plays cod online nearly every day so there is no issue with the connection, it has only been since the latest playstation update that the ps3 does not find any media servers, my sister is having the ame issue, it used to work absolutely fine with ni issues at all.

If COd is working then I would say the PS3 is fine. There aren't that many network settings to go wrong on the PS3. There must be some change on the network that means that the PC no longer recognises the PS3 as a trusted connection.
Check your share settings on the PC (sorry I'm not familiar enough with win7 to tell you how to do that step by step).
Turn off your router for five minutes.
Redo your network settings on both yor PS3 and your PC. Use automatic settings where possible.
Make sure that UPNP is enabled on your router and recognised by your PS3 (see internet connection test)
Make sure that your home network is assigned to a zone (eg Home or Work) on your PC.
Check that you can ping your PS3 from your PC
Did you say you were using Playstation Media Server? Have you tried their forum?
