yeah, luck-o'-the-draw, Smoke. There's a wide variaton in the quality achievable due to the combinations of adapters, OSs, Drivers, encrypton software and your local EM environment.

Since yours runs so well perhaps you'd like to share what brands/models/versions of router, OS's and adapters  (and your home address of course) adds up to the perfect combination

uhhhh. don't anyone buy my router though. Despite what I can achieve media server wise. It's a dudder. lol a belkin wireless n F5D8636-4 v2 constant lock ups and resets with it. However the biggest reasons why I get it to work I think is the program I use, PMS. The setting of quality, good transcoding for HD on pull down and DONT limit the bandwidth of the network, this just causes problems. I have my ps3 wired, and my laptop wireless and it's a good idea to not have other things causing too much of a load on the network while your streaming, especially when your wanting to achieve hd transcoding.  These are my personal thoughts on setting it up.

For those who don't even know what I'm talking talking about when I say transcoding, it's changing the format of a video or audio file temporarily on the fly so that it will play on the ps3. http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/ this is the website for PS3 media server.

don't mind me smokey, I'm just biased against wireless lol. In my personal experience, using 2 routers  with wireless N, I haven't been able to stream any 1080 content for longer than 2-3 minutes without interuption. Also even with 720p, I find that if I ever paused it, that's usually enough to make it have a hissy fit! This is at a distance of about 2-2.5 metres, clear line of sight. IMO wireless is great for surfing, emails and general use, but I'd never use it for streaming if I had another option - even if it invloves tripping over a cable sometimes

that's a shame bag. I've streamed 1080p full length films with no problem, paused, unpaused and even  rewind and fastforward work, though if u try x30, it has a heart attack, but ive experienced that with any resolution and on a completely wired environment lol.

Yeah I use PMS. I find on wireless that everything craps out after a few minutes of playing but that's using wireless G from the router to the PS3. I haven't really tried on wireless N from a PC to the router apart from music. Although there's a wild animals hd video that comes with windoze 7 that I might try with my wife's laptop. unfortunately neither WiMP nor PMS will decrypt any drm content on the win7 pc to my PS3 because I'd really like to stream some of the talking books off it.

hmm the HD animal video seems to play ok using wirelss N.. and that's just using WiMP. It's only 30sec long though

Well I took the gamble and bought the Apple Airport Extreme and so far so good. I don't stream much HD content (not sure I even have any to test) but under my old setup even SD video would be choppy and awful. Now, with the Airport Extreme, it seems to be rock solid. Because it's simultaeneous 2.4 and 5Ghz I have the iMac sat on the 5Ghz frequency streaming to the router, and then wired to the PS3. All other wireless devices use the 2.4Ghz frequency so that they can surf the net etc without ever affecting the traffic from the iMac. It also gives you another 2.4Ghz channel for guests so that they can access the net but not your LAN. So you end up with 3 wireless channels. It was an absolute breeze to setup just like all things Apple -- so far I am very pleased with this purchase!
