Hi, I've had my PS3 since Christmas and just last night I could hear a relatively loud whining noise, I'm guessing it's coming from the hard drive, really dissappointing as these noises are quite annoying at times. I'm going to keep running it and see how the noise goes, really don't want to take it back or have to replace the hard drive.

Anyway, I understand HDD noise is a common thing, it's bound to happen, but this sudden and that loud? Come on!... just wanted to vent, thanks for reading!

Hey Mate,

If your console is a 40gb or an 80gb, you could do a fan test / reset. I would only advise trying this once. Now if it is a 40gb or 80gb, what you have to do is turn the console off totally so there is now power at all, press and hold down the eject button on the front of the PlayStation3 then flick the console on from the back power switch. This should make a loud fan noise for about 15 seconds & hopefully fix this issue up.

If this doesn't work, best idea would be to give us a call, so we can look further into this.
