It will be charged for, it probably won't be in the US but I'm sure they will conjour up a reason to charge the UK for it.

I predict Sony to abandon the PSN in favour of the Plus service If the next gen console does come around. Sony are currently losing money on maintaining services; so it would make sense for them to have us pay for services to keep them in profit. "They could do what the BBC do; which is charge everyone for a gaming licence; at least, It would be far more beneficial than the TV License is".- Just joking lol.

Yeah... this generation has probably seen the last of the freebies. Evidence is in the modified disclaimers that are posted within the Terms & Conditions. "We are not responsible for loss or damages on our services... Blah..Blah..Blah".

Not quite sure, they were in the Red before PSN went down by the hack.

But the hack cost Sony millions and they need to sart making  money on it.

It is one of the reasions they made PS+ but the hack has thrown all predictions out of the window.

SONY has always said that PSN will be free.

Then again,SONY has said/done a few things in the last few years and backtracked.

So i wouldnt take what SONY says as gospel.

I think there might be something similair to xboxlive - eg,different types of accounts.

And the way its going,publishers may start charging to use their servers - Or a premuim service per game (ala COD).

Last January Sony released some info.

It said that PSN was in the RED but they expected it to be back in the green within 18 months but then the hack happend

Some one posted it last year I do not remeber the full details though.

i expect that the service will be similar to what we have now, except that plus+ will be given a little more stuff to encourage people to buy it more. However if cross game chat were to come (which would make me very happy!!) i would expect it to be part of the free service, otherwise it would not be a major feature (and i don't think people would buy psn plus for this either... they would buy it for the deals on games and early access to demos and stuff like that.).

if it were a paid for service totally and the prices were similar to what xbox were offering then i would go for it certainly (i pay for xbox live and its not that expensive really!), but like most people i prefer to get stuff for free!!
