No bar is free. As you pay for it the next morning :smileytongue:

But yeah, it is a nice space. Been to it quite a few times since it came out months ago in North American Home. Handy if you know people in US, coz Clubs are region free. Anyone can visit them. Glad to see it's finally coming to EU though. And it is perfect for poker :smileyhappy:

Re: Home Poker World Tournament

hi guys!

i've been thinking about the league that we want to start up. LordRoss pointed me in the direction of the portuguese home section and their league (link). in their league you can play as many times as you want or just the odd one or two games. obviously those that play the most will get the most points. they've based their scoring on a "winner takes all" approach. for example, if there are 5 players at the table the winner gets 5 points, and everyone else only gets 1 point. i'm not too keen on this as it might discourage some if McNeilio or Domiiinatrix keep on winning!

what i propose is getting points based on how many are at a table. 5 players, the winner gets 5 points; 2nd place gets 4 points, 3rd place gets 3 points and so on. below i've knocked up a quick idea of a spreadsheet for the league.

poker-league-idea.jpg

as you can see it's only me playing (and i've managed to loose 6 times!). there is a column for points based on what i've described above. the "average position" column is an average on what place a player finishes in and the final column should be self-explanatory. we could have 4 types of winnings based on the last 4 columns (won, points, average position and win percentage). this way if a new player wants to join in half way through the league they will have a chance to win, say, best win percentage as they won't be able to collect enough points to win in the points column. of course we'll need to say that a player needs to play a minimum amount of games to be eligible to win. we can't have a person playing one game and winning, thus giving an average position of 1 and a win percentage of 100%! so perhaps the minimum should be set to 6 games? or?

last time we met up up in the clubhouse i raised the issue of having 7 players on one night. i've given this quite a lot of thought and tbh i can't see a work around that will help. apart from that we need to rotate ourselves from "table to table" so some times we play on a table with 4 players, other times we play on a table with 3. of course, this is assuming we get an odd number of players on our meet ups....

LordRoss also proposed that we run the league based on seasons (spring/summer; autumn; and winter). i like this idea and was thinking we could kick off the league thursday 17th may (which is also norway's national day if you're wondering), a week after the grand-final. we'll run it until the school summer holidays begin in england (which i have no of idea when they start but i'm guessing the end of july, start of august).

now where do we host it? Renegade has a great pub so we could play there (he also talked about buying a new clubhouse). Vicki also has a clubhouse and Domiiinatrix as well. why can't we rotate around so we get a chance to visit each others places? might be fun!

finally, i don't mind setting up and running a google doc for the league table but i'm trying to teach myself how to put in formulas to make it easier updating the league. but if anyone has experience in that let me know and i can allow you access to the doc so you can help! thanks!

so, thoughts?

You are more than welcome to use our new clubhouse for any events.  It's now the official OPC Events clubhouse ya see   Will get Vissy to make you subleader anyway for this Poker tourney.

The Portuguese league has some set rules for their (turn up when you want as many times as you want) league that may also be worth considering.

League matches only count when minumum of 4 people turn up.  In the rare cases that they had an odd number like 7 turn up, I was told that they have taken it on themselves to do a table of 4 and when one gets knocked out another one from the remaining three joins the table.  Either that or they spam and try and bring in more players to even things out.

I do have the google document template they use which I can share with you eg for you to edit as you please.  Although obviously don't give me your addy here in public.

Some really great idea's there EG. I like the idea of doing 5 points for the winner, 4 for 2nd etc.. Gives us all something to stay focused on. Doing it in rotating clubs/pubs etc sounds good but how will it affect scoring etc? I mean will there be a set person to keep score every week and who will do it if said person isn't there? My club has been sitting unused for sometime now. Would quite like to see it getting used again once in a while :smileyvery-happy:

i like the idea that 4 people need to turn up. sounds good - minimum 4 people at a table. as games don't take too long we can get in at least 2 games a night so if someone does show up late or there are an odd number over 6 you should be able to get at least one game.

i did like their doc they had set up the league on, though i wonder if it a tad too much for what we need?

the good thing about google docs is you can allow your document to be edited by people who a) have its URL address or b) a password to it. was half playing with the idea that if a number of us had access to it then it would make the work load lighter. but then again we'd need to agree on who's doing it and when, etc.

i still like the idea of visiting people's clubs even if we're getting a new shiny OPC Events clubhouse. could use the OPC clubhouse as a base and move out from there certain weeks...

Re: Home Poker World Tournament

Actually Vicki does make a good point.

It may be nicer to rotate the locations as that way everyone can get to show off their clubs they bought so at least that way they don't get wasted.
