Re: Fossil Digging Tips

It was removed with a bunch of other tools because they were accidentely released early.

You should be able to get the description up for the item
Personal> my purchases> select the charm and click L3

My guess is it's the same as the other ones and has a 1 star effect on rarity.

So would anyone know if these are cumulative or would it be useless to buy more than one?

Yeah, the three I have are;

Good-luck Excavation Charm (Silver/Black in colour)

  • This charm will bring you luck when digging for fossils. Effect on Rarity: 1

Fortune Excavation Charm (Red/Yellow/Gold? in colour)

  • This charm will bring you fortune when digging for fossils. The effect overlaps with other charms. Effect on Rarity: 1

Good Luck Charm (Purple/Silver in colour)

  • A miracle-working good luck charm. Effect on Rarity: 1

I take it that it was removed along with the following then?

Pick Axe found in Ancient Ruins

  • An ice axe unearthed from the ruins of an ancient civilisation.
  • Amount Diggable: 3+
  • Sense of Balance: 4
  • Effect on Rarity: 1

Ancient Legendary Brush

  • A brush that is said to have been made by an ancient civilisation.
  • Amount Diggable: 2
  • Sense of Balance: 6
  • Effect on Rarity: 1

Shovel of the Gods

  • A sword-like Spade that can only be used by a legendary hero.
  • Amount Diggable: 4
  • Sense of Balance: 3
  • Effect on Rarity: 1

Hammer and Stake from a Lost Technology

  • A hammer and stake made of a mysterious metal.
  • Amount Diggable: 2+
  • Sense of Balance: 5
  • Effect on Rarity: 1

I don't know the stats for the Jackhammer.

Further to Krazy's post above I can tell you that it's currently possible to collect:

15 Leaf Fossils
5 Trilobite Fossils

5 Ammonite Fossils

4 Ramphorhynchus Fossils

4 or 5 different sized stones

A rusty tin can

An old tyre

A branch

I don't know if it's possible to collect any Ammonite or Ramphorhynchus fossils at this time with the standard tools though [maybe someone can confirm or deny that?] as I haven't got any of those yet.

That mysterious woman doesn't seem to give any rarer fossils than the suspicious man either but she does sometimes find 2 fossils in 1 clod of dirt.

Hope this helps!

Standard (free tool) users can currently dig up the following collections:

All the "junk" artifacts:

* Small, medium and large stones, rusty tin can, old tyre, and (yes) the tree branch (although like most people I've only seen that once).

*15 Fossilised Leaves

*  5 Trilobite Fossils  (all obtainable by free tools)

*  5 Ammonite Fossils (all obtainable)

None of the Rhamphorhynchus fossils, nor the Coral, Footprint, nor freestanding giant dino bones are available without the Advanced or Legendary Tools.  In addition any "Large Clods" that you excavate always produce junk artifacts.  I suppose this alone may be a sufficient incentive to purchase at least ONE of the paid tools.  I'm not sure though which tool would be one's best bang for the money.  The Legendary Pickaxe with +1 rarity effect?  What's the benefit of that one over the others?

OK, So the one's I know of currently are (When placed on the Collection Plates, looking from left to right, row by row from top to bottom unless stated otherwise):

  • Fossil: Lobed Oak Leaf
  • Fossil: Archaefructus Leaf

4 Rhamphorhynchus Fossils

6 Footprint Fossils

  • Fossil:
  • Fossil:
  • Fossil: Primate footprint
  • Fossil: Bird Claw Print
  • Fossil:
  • Fossil: Footprint of Herbivorous Dinosaur (Ankylosaur)

The ones that just say 'Fossil:' are place holders until I get them. Anyone got anything not on this list (and where it would go on it)?

My main question is; Are there any other Dinosaur bones such as the Mammoth Tusks and Tail that don't have a Collection Plate, but look more like they are meant to be displayed as a skeleton?

^^^

Added to your list the fossils which I've excavated using free tools.^^^

If Mysterious Beauty Connoisseur pre-evaluates your fossil as being "This looks slightly promising," then she will likely give you a fossil which is from 2 to 3 star rarity.  When she says "Oh look there's another fossil in here," she will always give you a fossil which is new to you.  Btw The Shady New Guy can also (occasionally) give you a second fossil from a fragment.

The freestanding fossils such as the Mammoth Tusk and Bones will be automatically displayed in the future "Granzella Museum" personal space when purchased.  The Museum positions the huge dinosaur bones in their correct orientations so you'll know which pieces are missing.

Feel free to add any corrections to anything I've mentioned :smileytongue:

Re: Fossil Digging Tips

I'll have to disagree, I have found corals, footprints, Rhamphorhynchus and Dino bones using only free tools on my accounts.

That's interesting Sam!  Is that a recent update development?

You'll note that BlueCirrus and I both seem to have had the same experience with the restricted collection range.  No corals or rhamphys or dino bones, etc.

Have you gained special Granzella items (not necessarily from Fossil digging but maybe from Edo?) on any of those accounts where apparently you're entitled to dig up *anything* from Southern Island?

EDIT:

I just realized that if you have been able to receive useful items from Large Clods -- have you? -- then of course you would be able to successfully excavate rhamphy and Mammoth Bones etc.  My "Large Clods" always produce junk.  Idk if that's a bug or not.

On my other accounts I haven't purchased anything and only have the reward items from GranZella.
I should note they weren't from the bonus fragments also.

Edit: I tend to use the same method every time with the free items, pick axe, pick axe, shovel, shovel.
Whether that has an effect I don't know, but I do seem to find more large fragments that way.

Does that just make me very unlucky then? The fact that have bought the fancy pickaxe (So two fossils a day) and yet I don't have any Rhamphorhynchus, any Dinosaur bones, any complete sets or even a branch...:smileysad:
