As of this Thursday I will no longer be able to access the Playstation network, and by extension this means Playstation Home.
Now this isn't by choice, Sony has forced me into a corner with Thursdays firmware update. I will miss you all greatly while I am gone, but until Sony does a U-Turn on this decision you won't be seeing me on the psn.
I will be holding one final 'World War Wednesday' event tomorrow to celebrate my leaving, and all are welcome to join, game will be Modern Warfare 2 or Killzone 2. We will meet up in Socom space tactical tent at 7:00 and launch into the game at the slightly extended time of 7:45.
If anyone wishes to keep in contact with me please send me a PM over the PSN before Thursday and i will pass you on the details.
Now, here is the reason for my leaving, I feel that I have to place this down:
I have always been an avid supporter of Sony, I have always purchased genuine games and genuine merchandise. But this news regarding the upcoming update has hit me hard. I am one of the small percentage of PS3 owners who use the 'Other OS' functionality on the PS3 on a daily basis, using a highly customised version of Linux which I have tailored to my needs, it works fantastically!
I purchased one of the first 1000 PS3's to ever be manufactured, it was one of the 20GB Emotion Engine units. It has never faltered on me, not so much as a sneeze! It hasn't had any problems on 'Other OS' or on the PS3 OS. It is by far the most reliable computer I have ever owned, and one of the most powerful too. Oh and I didn't keep the original 20GB HDD in by the way, that was upgraded to 500 the second I got chance ^^
The news has hit me hard and I think Sony is bang out of line!
I have two options:
1) Install the update and lose my Linux OS that has taken me almost a year to customise to my EXACT needs and which I have been running now since the 4th Month of me owning the unit.
2) Don't install, keep my Linux but lose all PSN connectivity, No PS Home, no PS Store, No Online games, No ability to play new games etc etc etc.
I feel that Sony is forcing me into a corner, and I don't like that. I refuse to buy another PS3 just so I can have the functionality that originally my one PS3 contained all in one.
Purely on principle I will NOT be upgrading my console, and I will NOT be purchasing a second PS3, I have probably spent over a £1000 on the PSN so far and countless more on physical products, and they won't get a penny more out of me until they state that they are going to keep the 'Other OS' functionality.
I believe Sony is acting immature and playing school yard games with these hackers.
Grow up Sony and get your priorities straight!

Exactly Plambey.
And Sony should realise that doing something like this makes it even worse because it makes the hackers feel morally justified in doing what they are doing.
Try taking something away and a hacker will put every bit of effort in just to get one over.
Sony has just opened the floodgates for every keen hacker out there, I would wager that the PS3 will be fully hacked before the end of the year.

hmm
3 posts in the english forums at the same day from me...; must be a special day :-(
Sony loses not only a customer, Sony loses another active member of this community who was always ready to organize a event for this "community". Thank you for this, Dr - Mog.
I don't think that someone can fill up this gap when u leave; but i had decided the same way.
I don't know what will be the future of Home, what will be the future of this forum or even this community...
But i am sure that in a few months other folks will ask the same questions, other folks will moan about the same things, other folks still wondering why there are so many females around in Home but so little clothes for them. That means, u won't miss anything here, but i am sure, some of us will miss u :-(
Take care!
