Petition for Manditory Game Launching

I just thought its about time we start a petition for manditory game launching.

Home had so much potential when it was launched but one of the main selling poiints is rarely used.

The latest update speeds things up a bit but I have no intention of going back to home until Sony sort things out and make game launching and automatic cross game invites manditory for multiplayer games.

I have no intention of buying things in home if that is the only thing for me to do, I have no intention of playing mini games as I spend enough money buying the real thing.

It annoys me when game developers add stuff to home to purchase but they fail to add game launching support, I don't think I am the only one who feels that they are just milking us.

Home was not just supposed to be glorified IRC, it was supposed to be a social network that took advantage of the console itself.

It was not supposed to be second life, It was supposed to be a better way of socializing and gaming with friends.

I would have absolutely no problem buying things if it lived up to their promises.

I dont think that it would be too much to ask for manditory game launching in future games. If you feel the same as I do please sign below.

Give us home, not second life!

Re: Petition for Manditory Game Launching

yeh i agree. it was mentioned a while ago that it would be up to the consumer to let the games developers know that we want Game Launching and not up to Sony. Sony said they would not make it mandatory. however, when trophies first came out, they werent mandatory (MGS4 anyone?) but at the start of 09 (i think, dont quote me) it was mandatory for all games to have trophies (i'm almost certain) so maybe at the start of 2011 it will be. for the moment, keep emailing developers of upcoming games and let them know theres interest...

Re: Petition for Manditory Game Launching

Honestly I think that is a cop out. Sony have to compete. Their competitor has had the feature of cross game invites for all games since they launched their console and it makes the experience 110 times better.

Why the hell would Sony strive to make their console's online gaming experience inconstistent.

That lowers peoples opinions of it.

When I ask friends why they prefer the 360 they point out the consitent cross game invites and say that it makes the online gaming better. I agree, I wont lie to myself because I bought from sony. I want to see sony improve the experience.

When they improve it then more people would buy the ***** console, there would be no more "360 has a better online experience" arguments.

Its the only thing that I think that microsoft do better and its really annoying because sony already have two solutions(automatic cross game invites(MW2) + game launching).

Its not like it would involve effort on their end to make it manditory and improve the experience and usability of their console.

They need to take thier head out of their asses for once and just do it.

They need to do their jobs instead of getting gamers to complain to developers for an inconsistent and annoying experience.

Maybe they should go and hire usability experts like everyone else in the business.

Jeeze, its so frustrating how out of touch they are with their users.

I bought the console at launch and if I knew I would be in this situation today then I wouldnt have bothered.

For once I would like them to show that they knew what they were doing.

I guess that is too much to ask.

At least I will learn from the experience for the next generation of consoles.

Re: Petition for Manditory Game Launching

Proper game launching cannot simply be implimented, it has something to do with the game in question too, which Sony can't do much about.

Re: Petition for Manditory Game Launching

What evidence do you have for that?

I am not saying that they need to include it in every game since launch. Its too late for that.

They can make it manditory for all future online games though, just like they made trophies manditory for for all games.

The feature is already there for developers to use, now its time for sony to grow a pair and make it manditory to improve the online experience for their console.

Its time to compete, not tell gamers to go complain else where.

Do your Job's.

Re: Petition for Manditory Game Launching

I don't believe it's a feature that needs to be added to Home - it's a feature that needs to be added to each individual game by the developers.  Now for Sony-developed games, that ought to be straightforward enough.  But for third party games, Sony wanted to insist, as part of their developer licence, that all new games supported Home launching.  But then the recession came, and the developers can't afford to spend an extra month or two putting in Home launching and testing it - cos they need to get their products on the shelf to ease their cashflow.  Also, Sony probably realised that demanding Home launching wasn't a wise idea as both major consoles are fighting for the exclusives - and anything which hacks off development companies will surely drive more exclusives to xbox.  In the current market - developers definitely call the shots.

Having said all that, add me to the petition.  It'll do no harm.

"the old "i pay your wages!!!!!11oneoneone" attitude doesnt get ya very far mate. Bottom line is, the team are doing what THEY can to get Home working to the vision they all had."

#1 I dont pay their wages, I have already payed for the console. They don't give a ***** what I think.

#2 If you consider buying things from home then i still dont pay their wages because I refuse to waste time with home as it offers me nothing. I would prefer it to be a place where I could meet up with friends and start sessions(Then I would feel compelled to buy stuff there and not have to look online to see if a game supports something which should be manditory to begin with).

#3 The people who pay their wages are new console owners and people who buy stuff on home(They need to get more people buying)

#4 My attitude leads to word of mouth(I refuse to lie to friends who have a 360 and tell them that the ps3 has a better online experience when it  doesn't)

#5 This specific problem is not for the guys who work on home to solve, they have already solved it. This is a problem with higher up's who most likely dont even use the console and do not undertand how this feature is important to its success.

The work has already been done, The home guys have done their jobs, The firmware guys have done their jobs. The problem is idiotic management.

Management who would prefer to have marketing run the place then treat the thing like a console.

Lastly, I dont care about how annoyed I come accross at this stage.

If I saw them repetitively smack their heads off a wall then that stupidity would get just as annoyed.

Its deep into the consoles lifesycle and management are not doing their jobs properly.

We already have a back catelog of games which dont support trophies, a huge back catelog which don't support game launching or automatic cross game invites and Sony seem determined to make the later even larger even though they have a solution which they should be pushing.

I have a large collection of PS3 games, I decided to hold onto them rather than sell them off.

Sony want to kill the second hand game market but at the same time they make the people who dont resell the games feel like they are being screwed over.

Everything is so god ***** incoherent and badly planned its sad. I wont be holidng onto games anymore, I will just sell them off and reduce sony's profits and it will be down to their own stupidity.

There are so many reasons why their tactics are ridiculously stupid and contradictory that trying to list them out here would take several years to do.

The reason why I am so angry is because I actually had faith that they would do things properly at some point.

Wont make the same mistake a second time.

Ok thats great for you. Then what about what the majority of Home users want, which is in fact content and stability and the ability to socialise without being in a game?

This is a capitalist world remember. Everything revolves around profiting. As James very well explained.

Re: Petition for Manditory Game Launching

Well my argument is that the majority of home users is a small fraction of console owners and for good reason. I want this number to increase.

I don't know why I keep having to repeat this but these feature's already exist!

It would not distract from any of your content.

Home developers know the numbers, hopefully when they read this they can use it as amunition towards management to do something about it. There would be no expenditure issues yet it would greatly increase the numbers of people using and thus consuming content on the service.

And dont tell me I am a minority, My friends list is full and yet I rarely see anyone on it in home.

The service needs to become more usefull for people who spend money buying games.

Those people will likely spend money on home as a result.

Yes we live in a capitalist system and you should give maximum exposure to your service to ensure multiple avenues of revenue.

Yes we live in a capitalist system and that very system punishes those who ignore the issues with their product/service.

Home is used primarily to advertise games which in turn creates profit in one area but there are other aspects of home which could have equal if not greater potential in terms of profit growth.

Its not rocket science, they need to gain more exposure for home.

If you like gimicky spaces then enjoy, I am not telling you what you should like. Understand why the spaces exist though. Its advertising, advertising for games. "Some of us" buy games regardless of those spaces and find them rather useless.

This does not make our opinion null and void.

There is a large portion of playstation users who are dissapointed that they are not being taken care of. Most dont post here because they dont bother using it anymore, leave these threads and look at the reaction of home related news from the rest of the community and its mostly negative reactions.

You have your gimicky spaces, you are taken care of, I am not saying you shouldn't be.

We were told home was not second life, we were told we would be able to invite friends to our home and start a lobby for a game directly in home.

These are things we find usefull, some of us dont have time for the other spaces. Some of us just want a small fraction of what we were originally promised. And for Sony to give us that would take little effort on their part. Their developers have already done the hard work.

This is not a thread asking sony to take anything away from home. It's a thread asking Sony to put more effort into gaining exposure for the features home "already" has.
