I find that the sound does not work if you set the playstation sound setting to Dolby Digial 5.1 Ch.

Is there a way to fix this?

To the OP, I'm not sure if I've seen a 5.1 set-up option in the audio category of the menus myself, but I have a surround set up at my home and it seems to work fine. But honestly, apart from filling your room up with the sound of "nothingness" (y'now that sound) I don't think Home benefits often from surround, except spaces like Singstar or Motorstorm where music is played alongside a background-chatter track. Most of the time Home's pretty mono I'd say lol.

No, Home has full 5.1 surround

If your set-up is working correctly and you stand still in home while rotating the space using the right stick you'll hear every sound panning through your speakers accordingly. Depending on which space you're in, impressively so.

It sounds to me like you haven't got the correct settings enabled in your PS3's sound settings. Most of the time this is because a person has Bitstream selected when their home cinema can only do PCM and vice versa. Also, don't tick all the frequncy boxes in the PS3's sound settings as not all home cinema amps can handle all of the frequencies and when they can't handle a certain format (such as 5.1 bitstream for example) they'll default to 2.0

Use the manual which came with your home cinema equipment to see which frequencies and formats (DTS, Dolby Digital, 5.1, 7.1, 2.0 and so on) it can support then it's a matter of setting up the PS3 (and maybe too your home cinema's) settings so that both work in harmony

Home has very good surround sound with some lovely sound panning once it's all tickety boo

Even if PS3 games are working with full surround sound it doesn't mean Home will as the game(s) could be using DTS which you've got set up correctly and Home uses Dolby where you might have the wrong frequency ticked

Don't trust the PS3's auto select option in the sound options as it got it completely wrong with my Samsung home cinema. I spent about an hour tweaking the tick boxes on my PS3's settings before it worked correctly with games, movies, music and Home

Hmm, I set my back speakers to be slightly quieter than the front three since the couch is right next to the back ones. This evens out the sound when watching films on the couch, but leads to "behind you" sound loss. I also have a habit of pulling my game-chair to about half a meter away from my screen when I play games or Home, which pulls me further away from my back speakers, making the almost inaudible.

I guess I COULD fix it but hey, I CBA lol. Good advice from Foo BTW.

I can hear the sound changing from speaker to speaker and I've only got 2!
