RE:- 6.5 update - Is it all cosmetic rubbish as usual or have they sorted out the chess glitches?

[ Edited ]

More cosmetic rubbish I see - I could have done WITHOUT the menu pad being mucked about with - I could have done with the chess glitches being sorted out, namely:-

1. Avatars timeing-out whilst seated at the chess tables preventing other people being able to play.

2. Empty tables and people queuing to play chess.

3. Rooks jumping through pawns and other ambiguities.

4. Idiots being able to lean over the tables obscuring opponents pieces and putting there heads up through the tables....

....and many more, shall I carry on?

Please make things work properly before bringing out other stuff to not work properly and stop using the CUSTOMER as a guinea pig to do your job for you - we're the gamers - we're not being paid to be developers!!!

Hi Logic :smileyhappy: guess you've met me!

I do agree, though, those 4 bugs and then some need fixing. Have you played one of the chess tables you can get for your apartment? They are relatively bug free. I have one myself and it works fine :smileyhappy:

Hi, thanks for your reply and advice. I haven't no - don't they cost money though and I don't really want to do all that 'inviting people' to my apartment palarva anyway?
I just want the chess tables in the various areas to bloody work properly - like you said ''and then some need fixing"! Identify yourself if you're on there ever - I'll give you a run for your money!

lol ok. Yeah the tables do cost between 1.50-2.40 i believe in GBP. But it's cool, whenever I get back on next I will add you and you can play at the one in my club house or apartments free of charge  I also have a checkers table if your brain is feeling fried one evening. I rarely get to play any more except on Yahoo and people there tend to drop out a lot.

That sounds great - look forward to it. It's interesting what you say about people 'dropping out' on Yahoo as this is one of the facets of the other major complaint I have about the whole Home experience.

I would be happy to have an uninterrupted game with you in one of your places, but what I really want to do is to try and improve the overall experience in Home.

I have complained bitterly all the way to the top of customer services on the phone to no avail. They seem to feel, well in the UK at least, that the chess community on Home are just not important enough as compared with their big online subscription services where I believe there is more structure and more protocols on peoples' behaviour.

For example, take the Grief Reporting system that Sony have incorporated within the HOME gaming platform.

It's not that it doesn't discipline wrongdoers (myself included on one occassion), but that it's so bloody slow!

Do you know that Sony have an out-sourced company within the Sony umbrella of companies that collates the data received by the Grief Reporting system and feeds it back presumably to Home at their Head Office in London. Picking up the phone and saying to someone at the PS3 helpdesk can you turn on a PS3 (and yes they do have a few) and see in real time what this pratt is doing and/or saying doesn't work.

They have, as they term it, a Post-moderator Grief Reporting system, which basically works like the Peoples' Front of Judea in The Life of Brian film, when Judith rushes into John Cleese's character and shouts "they're going to put Brian on a cross'' and John Cleese proposes another motion!

Having some VISIBLE presence of authority on Home is a complete anathema to them.

Yeah your right I could, if I was that clever and could see the board in my head. I love the game, but I'm so bad at it, that with the board there in front of me I still make a pigs ear of it. "Don't open with your King's pawn'' or ''what's with this crazy A5'' opening they nag me on HOME!
I'm afraid I'm not the genetic scientist genius in Blade Runner - but occassionally I win, normally against a novice or bigger numpty than I am - and I love it!

But Home is a 'community', a 'virtual' community maybe - but in any community people are going to agree & disagree on everything under the sun. Sony's attitude or at least Sony at Head Office in London's attitude, is that it is a gaming environment - we can't tell people what to do; but if you have kids and just not very nice people who want to abuse the privilege then surely there needs to be a 'real-time' dynamic and visible system in place to deal with unruly elements rather than The Life of Brian system they have now!

If ever you feel in the need of a win (and looking for a bigger numpty) and see me wandering around give me a shout, I suck at both Chess and Draughts.
