That was all lies. But TBH people do pay for it and if it makes Sony money then they wont get rid. With the new beta coming you will be able to shop from the wardrobe. No need to go to the shopping mall.
Eddy there are other spaces without great big robot goalies... Glitching onto the pond is not good and not how Sony intended the mall

Then what they should do is make a dedicated space for the game. That way it's still making them money and it's giving the community a nice place to go.

Same here I forgot about Threads 2 aswell, didn't had much clothing did it? Only Motorstorm jacket or whatever was it? It got replaced by Lucas Arts Store lol.

The addition of the robo goalie personal space negates the need for a dedicated public space in my view. If youre gonna buy tokens to play this game chances are you'd pay for the space.

But think about it ... that's the only Pay-2-Play mini-game that they haven't removed even if they've created an apartment for it. So it stands to reason that people ( small amount if that ) like to play it rather than buy the apartment so it would make sense to make a dedicated public space for it.
This way they'll still get the revenue from it and the community will be happy that they'll have nice place to go. It's a win win for Sony and the Home community.
