The Cinema, Pier Park and Navigation

I've got to admit it, I'm not really liking the new revamped Home as a whole. SInce the removal of the old home square 'format', the entire world has felt somewhat more fragmented and less inviting.

The only spaces that really inerlink in any feeling of 'world' and consistency are the Sports Walk and Pier Park. bizarely, it's possibe to go from SPorts Walk to Pier Park via a direct door, but not back again (or is it the other way around?), which breaks the feel somewhat.

I still dont get why in Pier Park, we're also missing the music that the American version gets.

I think the new cinema stinks. The old one used to have people congregaring and chatting in the centre area. All it needed was a couple of seats upstairs and it would be fine. But this new one is a mess. Its so over-large that getting around it between screens is boring, and clearly other people dont liie it much as nobody ever groups togtehr to talk in the central area anymmore. It's just not a fun place to be anymore. Why when leaving as well, does it go back to Home Square? Surelt it should go to Pier Park, where it's exterior is?

Ive been trying to get back into Home after a bit of an absense, but the place just just doesn't have the welcoming feeling it once had.

And I'd liie to ad my voice to those who've called for a 'classic area' which returns the original Home Square, with original cinema, shoppnig mall, entrance to personal space, etc. Whats the harm?

It's more advertising space Sony...

Re: The Cinema, Pier Park and Navigation

I agree with you in respect to how home does really feel disjointed now and there is no common interlinking themes. Little touches like you could see the sqaure through the doors of the bowling alley and the old cinema lobby gave it that feel. Now the core spaces just feel like a bunch of random things all thrown together. The pier and sports areas only feel similar as they are both looking out onto water and have similar lighting, other than that they dont really feel joined.

Personally I prefer the NEW look cinema though. I see what you are saying about it being too big and people dont go there but that could possibly be more down to the fact its not updated enough and theres rarely anything worth watching on the screens so people get out of the habit of going there, rather than a genuine dislike of the space its self. Im sure I'll be shot down for saying this, but I think about 40% of the spaces on home should be retired anyway. STARTING WITH BOTH THE MALL SPACES and give us navi shopping.

Re: The Cinema, Pier Park and Navigation

I don't think a complete removal of shopping spaces is needed Fury, but a re-design, absolutely. Home does feel disjointed now though, and the unity of the design in the older spaces made it all feel like a cohesive whole. I think half the problem with the new spaces is in their initial design. The original designs of Home (to my mind) were perfect really; a flowing continual design throughout the Home map made it all look like the same place.

I'm not saying spaces like Novus Prime or the Dolphy rooms shouldn't be what they are, far from it, Home needs more architecture that's based in a VIRTUAL reality as well. But these things can be designed with harmony easily. I was just about to make a thread about personal space design actually, take look...

Re: The Cinema, Pier Park and Navigation

I do agree Home feels alot more fragmented and would love to see it go back to how it was.

Shopping Mall's - I like them makes for a much more pleasant environment than the original design. I am glad they've only tweaked it instead of killing it all together like they've done with the Home Sq.

Cinema / Theatre - I'm not bothered to be honest I like them both.

Sports Walk and Pier Park fit in because their on the same Pier.

Re: The Cinema, Pier Park and Navigation

i'm in a real frame of 2 minds with the shopping mall. I much prefer the original one in theory, but other than the Bowling Alley, the current one is all that remains of the feel of old 'home'. Its as close to the original Home Square as we can get. What ruins it is the poinltess football game in the middle. Nobody ever even plays it, there's absoultely no reason to keep it, and it robs us of what could be a nice space to sit and chat. I still find myself preferring it to the new Home Square though. I was okay wtih the new HOme Square (exclding all the linking buildings to the new 'zones' around it) at first, but as time's gone on, I find it ever more personality-less and unwelcoming. To some extent I think I might even be starting to prefer the previous sqaure, which I couldnt wait to see the back of. The new one to me just seems to much like a presentation platform with a bit of grass (the places only real redeeming feature) stuck on the side. It doesnt feel welcoming at all. I havw falied to find somewhere with the welcoming feeling of the old Home Square. I've been exploring, and Pier Park is probably the closest, espcially with the Cinema in it (why cant one of the other dooors go to personal space?), but it's still not quite there. I'm actually fidning myself enjoying watching videos of the old Home on YouTube much more thasn being in the real thing...

I'd say one sure fire way to make the shopping mall somewhat better is to get rid of the robo goalie game.. its an eyesore and if removed will give us a bit of greenery in the space. (ok and i really dont like the game :smileytongue: )

I remember when they first opened up the shopping space and that green patch had nothing on it so everyone was sitting there chatting away. It was nice.
Then they stuck that stupid goalie game there (which I never see anyone playing) and then all the idiots started hanging round the space around it, having their fights.
The idiots will still remain, but they can get rid of that sodding game at least. Bring back the green!

As for the cinema; I prefer the new look but I agree that no one is ever there, it's because that space is just never used for anything. It's a great shame.

I miss being able to go to the bowling alley via home square. I frequent both those places and never go to indie park, which I just in the way for me.

I agree oh and move the map to the side of each entrance instead of putting it slap bang in the middle of the entrances.

It was nice, I still found it nice even with temporay promo's going on ( Blur ) but now I'd rather them remove both Robo Goalie and the Tank Top demo and just leave us with a patch of grass.

I wish they'd put more Community produced videos on like "Fracture" in the Cinema.
