Ooh, you can't win, Clare. If you don't have - or refuse - to go on mic, you're a guy. You do go on mic, and often you're still a guy who got his girlfriend to be his voice (they don't like to be proven wrong).
I wouldn't give them the satisfaction; almost did a long time ago, until a friend told me I was mad to go buy something I had no interest in using just for the sake of these guys who want to make sure I'm a female so they can then hit on me without fear.
If someone asks you if you're a man, tell them that if it means they wont hit on you, then you are (I do this now, just don't give a damn anymore). And then place them on ignore and concentrate on your real friends.

LOL @ "real" friends. this is Home we are talking about now.
The mic thing swings both ways though. I've had girls, and yes they must have been girls and not women, come up to me and demand I mic with them to prove they are female, like they are special and should be bowed down to (and they are always dressed like street walkers btw), Do you want a medal for having lady parts or something? Its just as pathetic as the "mic up den" guys.....
Gender is not relevant on home. end of.

I start a conversation with someone and after say 5 minutes they ask the inevitable question "do you have a mic ? " and when I say no the next comment is " oh your a guy then !!!! " Which I really shouldn't care that some noob says that to me but it does upset me sometimes. Theres a simply reason why I don't and can't use a mic on Home but this doesn't seem to matter with some of the users of Home .
I just wondered if any one else has had this happen to them ? Like is said this isn't an issue with my old Home friends just new people I try to meet on there . Maybe I should just chat with my real friends and not try making any new ones !!!!! Anyway let me know what you think about this please because sometimes its felt a bit like harassment when I say no to talking on mic !!!!!
This can be a tricky area for those who care, on the other hand, just do you wish and to hell with what some idiot who's not even on your friend list. In fact from personal experiance, these types who ask you to mic up are either looking for an argument, or perving around. Either way, it's not something that you should be concerned about. Us ladies get the brunt of this situation more than male avvies.
Do your own thing and if someone has a problem with it, tough, it's your account and you do as you choose. Tell you something, no one would make me think twice never mind mic up if I didn't wish to

Thanks for all your replys and everybody's right when they say I shouldn't care about what some faceless avi thinks or says about me and 99.9% of the time I don't . I still try to start conversations with strangers on Home and would like them not to end in the usual way of me leaving the space after being asked the normal things , "are you on facebook ? " yes I am but I'm not telling you my ID , " cam? " yeah right !! And of course the mic question .
Maybe the best thing for me to do is just chat with the 10 or so good friends on my list , I have about 50 on the list but only see these 10 regularly ,
Just to say to any random people I may meet on Home now I've bought a new wireless keyboard so the chances of me " micing up " is now nonexistent.
