Re: home save data question

This should be in the tech thread but y'know...

Yes, the Home data can be saved. Firstly, on the XMB goto Game>Save Data Utility (PS3), then find all your Home files. When you do, press the TRIANGLE button to open up the sub-menu, from there you can copy your Script Settings, Settings and Character Settings. You can also save all your personal space layouts from here too. Then just pop the USB into the new PS3 and transfer them over.

When you first boot up Home on the new PS3, you should see most things are in place. I'm not sure about the cache files though, someone else will have to tell you about those. Hope this helps.

Re: home save data question

Ahh, that's very different. I'm afraid that Sony have some kind of lock out for HDDs that are not already paired to a particular PS3. What that means is, the only way to gain access to your data is to get the old PS3 working again. See, each HDD is registered to the PS3 it's formatted on, so even if you used say, an external case to plug the old HDD into a new PS3, the only way to get the new PS3 to even acknowledge it, would be to format it to that particular PS3, which will erase all your data.

As it happens, I'm in the middle of doing the same thing to my PS3 right now! My gf decided to get Sony to replace my old phat PS3 for a new, safer Slim model. However she forgot to inform me of this transition until this morning (she thought it would be a nice surprise) so I never had time to do a back-up, and had to just pull it out before the Sony Van Man came to take it away. So I've taken out my old HDD and have it in an external case ready for data transfer, but as I explained above, there's no known way to do this yet. My mission for today is to find a way of saving all my old games saves, my Home stuff, about 150 films, TV shows and nearly 500 songs! Not to mention all the themes, avatars etc.

As soon as I find a way (IF I can) I'll post my findings on this board, but as of yet, no one has found a way around this, sorry.

There are a couple ways around this, some a lot more technical than others. It's not the kind of thing endorsed by PlayStation so cant really be discussed here.

I'd say do some Google-ing and if you cant find anything feel free to message me.

Oh and also worth noting: You could always call PlayStation and tell them what happened. Since they replaced your console they will probably ask you to send both the new and old HDD to them and they'll be able to transfer the data across.

Re: home save data question

LOL, no can't say it did Ankovmovtov.

I did a lot of digging around online and still couldn't find anything to help us. In my panic I've convinced my gf to bring my old PS3 to my work, and I'm saving what I can onto a 32GB stick at the moment. I know you don't have this privilege Goofus so I suggest you send our good friend GB here a message and see what he suggests.
