EDIT: I should read better it seems.
The thing you're describing has happened to someone I know and the only solution was to back up the PS3 and do a system rebuild. After that it worked but seems to be to an extreme.

Thanks, Tried all the safe menu options, in the end I had to perform a complete re-format of my PS3 and start all over again.

He already did that though, that's what we both get for not reading it right 
It's a really strange bug that affects very few so it's hard to replicate.
Bozza, hopefully you got it working again. I know it sucks that you will have lost quite a lot but it's the only clear solution I have seen so far

Tried all that including deleting the app, and all saves. Only way to stop if from freezing was to re-format my ps3 and start from scratch.
All working fine now.
