Re: SMS from Jess....

I'm going out on a limb here.

Jess if that was really you.

Send me another sms, something I can use. Something no one could know that I can share with the community.

Something solid!

Re: SMS from Jess....

hum...

Do you have your cell phones listed with sony? Did you post them in any home or xi related site? It's kind of coincidence only a handfull of people got them. Do you have common friends?

And a text message sent with a name? Hardly in Nokias's Symbian software UNLESS you associate a name with a number.

I sometimes receive publicity sms' and they come with a number like 1100 or 9191 or other 4 digit numbers. I use 3G GPRS latest generation phones, so don't come around with GSM limitations or something.

Even so... let's assume this would be legit, somehow they got hold of your cell phone numbers and sent you a message. Much like the images sent via PSN and the multiple nicks associated with Xi, we're narrowing this a lot to a bunch of users who may or not be that representative of the community, and if they are, were they supposed to SHARE this? If they're special, why won't they simply keep it for themselves, since this surely doesn't contribute to our sanity...

Re: SMS from Jess....

So are we three resigned to chalking this one up to a possible fake?

Because its freaky to say the least.

Maybe we should put it on the back burner for a while and see what transpires.

P.S.

Im changing my bloody number lol.

Tut, spam from Jess indeed!

P.P.S.

Joking about changing my number, just in case.

Lol.

Re: SMS from Jess....

nice way to put it: Jess spamming, 'cause that sure doesn't add jack...

By the way, this could be a nice way to promote truth and avoid fakes:

ANY MESSAGE OR POST THAT DOESN'T ADD PASSWORDS, HINTS OR STORY DEVELOPMENT IS A FAKE!

I conclude this from the history of true messages, they always provided some sort of story development, all others just confused people and reproduced what we already know. Furthermore, It could be quite hard to keep the fake story if in the future we end up having confirmations or denials from official sources, so eventually all you people posting fake messages, remember the mods here have access to your accounts and IP's.

I suggest kicking these people after they become exposed.

I posted about this earlier, modbod.. Yes, it's perfectly possible, I've done it from my own phone. All it takes is a special control sequence right at the start of your message and you can make it so the server strips sender ID from the message when delivering it (ie, the operators involved will surely know it's you, the routing information is kept all the way through, but the recipient of the message will just see a "ghost" message, no sender ID whatsoever).

I don't know if it's part of the protocol per se, or if each operator implements its own sequence (doubt it, though), but it's the kind of thing that they don't really like the "Average Joe" to know about, the possibility for abuse is too great, so I won't post details about it, sorry. But I'm sure if you google for it you'll eventually find that info out for yourself.

The tricky thing here is that they didn't just strip the message from the headers (sender ID), they managed to introduce their own signature into the headers.. Again, something that a control command (or a web sms portal with similar capabilities) could in all likelyhood do.. Read the earlier post about the bushfires in Australia and how the police sent sms to just about everybody using the same technique (no number, just a name -- one that no one had on their phonebooks). In any case, if this is fake, then we're not dealing with your average schmuck, this one was pretty sophisticated (both in the obtaining the numbers to begin with, and the actual sending of the message so that it showed that way).

I agree with him too, thats why I have a problem with this one, ignoring the password hint, its also telling us someone in AlphaAFK is a spy, now if that dont add to the story, what does.

Again I still think its fake.

Re: SMS from Jess....

All the recent hoaxers have been really annoying. But moderation is hard - if someone is caught and banned, surely they can just create a new account to start all over again?
