Hmmm... I'm pretty sure I'm barking up a long, boring and very incorrect tree. Could someone give me a hand? Highlight below for my question (on the off chance that it may be slightly, but probably not, spoilerific
)
Does the answer have anything to do with a relationship between the number given for a letter and that letter's position in the alphabet? Because that's all I've really been focussing on so far and there would still be loads for me to do on that topic, so if I'm completely wrong could someone please save me that bother. I noticed that if you write the alphabet out, then write their positions underneath (eg. A=1, B=2 etc.) you can add position numbers nearby to get the number NoResistance gave. For instance:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
12345678901234567890123456<Position in the alphabet, not including the first digit as doing it this way lines them up perfectly on NotePad
5 9 19 23 39
3 3 8 1 14
If you look on the crappy table I failed at, you can see that the bold, italicised and underlined numbers correspond, as those selected in the first line add to make those in the second.
Anyway, I'm quite confident that I've gone a bit overboard with this and I'm making up stupid patterns. A 'Yes' or 'No' answer from someone who knows the answer about whether or not I'm on the right lines would be great. Thanks
And for those who want to know, the colour of the background (to make text perfectly invisible) is #e9e9e9. EDIT: Well, I thought it was. On refreshing the thread I can kinda see the text again anyway...

Benjap: No!
It's much simpler than that, although it might not feel like it right now.

I had a couple more ideas (highlight):
That it was to do with how you would write out the letters on an alphanumerical keypad (like a phone).
And that it was do do with a QWERTY keyboard.
Obvously I had no luck. At the moment I just have no idea where to start as there are so many possibilites to me... Maybe if I leave it for a few days. It's not like the thread will be buried on these boards

Thanks, but I think that would be going a bit too far considering how quickly everyone else got it without them
.
I'm on a long haul flight to the US tomorrow and I'm taking my laptop, so I'll have plenty of time to mull it over. But thanks for the offer, I might be needing it eventually because when you just can't get a puzzle it annoys the hell out of you.
