Why has Xi been taken down??

 Okay, so the last puzzle has been released, the more dedicated have finished it, but why take it down? What about those of us who, thanks to demanding jobs and other real-world distractions, only get onto Home occasionally and have therefore made only patchy progress? What about brand new PS3 buyers - shouldn't they be given a chance too? Why not just leave the spaces and puzzles up and let us complete them at our leisure??

And what is the point of the alumni hub? Firstly, it's assuming we're all alumni, and secondly it's advertising a game/ experience (delete according to preference) that has now gone, surely?

Having also recently missed out on the Fists of Plastic/ fish rug extravaganza due to the same work issues and distractions, I am feeling somewhat disenchanted with Home at present :Shame:

Because its like the podium space........ Its only there for a short amount of time because the attraction/s has finished , Xi isn't a permanent feature in HOME

Re: Why has Xi been taken down??

Because the whole poin of Xi was that is was an ARG, a steadily progressing role-payng game. When the story came to an ened, that was it. Anyone who wanted to start now would miss the entire experience of the evolving storyline. As such it was only left up for people to complete what they hadn't already. Now that the game has ended and the story is done, there's no point to it being left on Home. And to be fair, Xi ended about a month ago. They probably thought a whole month would be long enough for people to play catch-up.

As for why the Alumni Hub is still there, its for us. Those of us who enjoyed the experience and what something to remember it by. Andprobably to be the launching pad for Xi2...

Re: Why has Xi been taken down??

I completed Xi the day the final puzzle came out, just as many people did, but I was a little surprised they took it down so quickly.

Obviously any spaces take up costly resources and when those spaces aren't being used by many people, then it becomes wasteful. Having said that though, I think they could've just reduced the amount of servers being used, so people like yourself and maybe even newcomers could complete Xi.

Having to work that much should be banned, you need a new career.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

Guess so - but IMHO they should have left the podium space up too, as an extra space to hang around in. There was something about that funky space temple atmosphere: there was really no need to take it down either

I understand the point you're making - but I'd argue with your assertion that ARGs HAVE to progress in real time. Yes, you get the full experience if you follow it in real time, but saying there's "no point" in leaving it up after the end is a rather strict and purist point of view. There was nothing inherently real time about the puzzles I managed to complete and I really can't see why they couldn't have left all those interesting and atmospheric spaces up for the benefit of the busy, casual wanderers and occasional visitors to the big H and importantly, newcomers.
To be fair, I did hear that Xi had ended last month, but didn't twig that it meant it was all going to be taken down and packed away. And even if I had, a bad few weeks at work I had little time and energy left the big black box under the TV...

Precisely - although I'm not quite sure about the resource issue, actually. I'd bet even now the Xi spaces would attract more visitors than some of the game spaces, because, after all, there was a point to them. There was something to do. What can you do in the Resident Evil space (at least the Euro version), or the Far Cry space? Errr...hang around a bit, do the running man, that's about it....
Ah well, whinging won't change anything I suppose. If only it did, eh? What a grand old time we could have on these forums! Will just have to get my finger out when Xi 2.0 rolls around....
