Can we get a tech upgrade please?

13 Replies 436 Views Created 20-12-2011

Home is looking very outdated.
I just had a look after not using Home for about a year, and it feels like I'm playing a PS2 game.
It's '05 tech, very dated feel & look to it.

Would anyone else like this? Better graphic standards?
I can't stand to look at Home anymore, it should look like Uncharted or something.

Also, I think a camera shake would be great. Have it move around a bit when you jog.

Just my 2 cents.

I think for them to do that they would have to rebuild it from the ground up. But yeah i wouldnt mind a sharper looking home, but its ok as it is now

Camera Shake... OH NO!  NO! NO!

Far as Home it does need to let it output in 1080p instead of that old lame 720p it is right now. So yeah HOME it's time for an upgrade in that area for sure. WE want 1080p HOME!

I want a heap load of spaces to play in to be honest. quantity over quality at this stage. I don't want my ps3 straining its guts to retrieve junk from HDD.

I'm happy enough with the general standard of graphics to be honest. I'd prefer them to concentrate on stabilising it a bit more, so less of the random kick-outs, and for them to address the various blasted hacks (freezing, etc).

I think it's to do with what the majority of net connections can handle on top of the memory restrictions at the moment. The more that's added, the more it's gonna require to run it and the more risk of crashing that'll come from that.

So weird you should say that. I watched Wizard of Oz couple of days ago.
That's the famous last line of Dorothy's.

I've tried to find what graphics engine Home uses before. It's not listed anywhere so it's either proprietary (Built by the home team from the ground up) or is based on the PhyreEngine.

I think it's the PhyreEngine though as they added MLAA (Morphological anti-aliasing) to replace the 2xMSAA (2x Multi-sample anti-aliasing) they originally had through Home client updates. They also increased the anisotropic filtering through new client updates.

Home definitely is making use of the many SPEs in the CELL, and at minimum they are using several cores for MLAA and the GPU for most effects. Sodium 2 suggests they are using a deffered renderer due to the lighting distance.

Home has great textures, nice AA (Though I would prefer FXAA (Fast approximate anti-aliasing) on the GPU over their current MLAA solution on the CELL), nice AF, extremely good rendering distance (I'm not sure Home model swaps at all), half-decent particles effects and physics, and support for dynamic lighting and shadows.

My main pet peeve with Home is still the controls - they have a large deadpoint which makes aiming innacurate. Also the framerate is just dreadful in many spaces. Maybe they could do cell-based deffered rendering or geometry culling or reduce the colour space to improve performance.

There is still a lot the home team can do to improve both performance (Framerate) and graphics quality.
