Fossoil Digging Tips

209 Replies 1,230 Views Created 08-03-2012

i wanted to create this thread purely for people like me who are having probs with the game,im just wondering to the people who are good fossoils out the rock what sort of commands was you using etc.

For instantance this is my 2nd fail in as many days i start with a moderate dig then get jackhammer out then when i get awarded the small rock piece i sort of go medium twice and then fall...(dont really wanna just win this little rock so i go on)

Ok Seribal, I don't think anyone's explaining this to you very well, so here goes.

You get one dig a day (as you know) so falling is the last thing you wanna do. Personally, I NEVER use the jack-hammer. If you look at the star rating of each tool it'll also tell you how likely you are to fall using that tool. So use the hammer and spike aggressively the first couple of times then finish off with your shovel or brush. The "clods of dirt" are given in random sizes, I've had small, medium and large ones all with the default tools so it's just luck there. Just don't get greedy and go for more than one fossil per day, or you WILL fall, and when you do you loose ALL the fossils you have collected.

Which brings the next bit of advice; you can save up to 100 fossils (I think) for the girl that appears on the 7th, 17th and 27th of each month who'll give you rarer stuff than the shady guy. That's it really. I'll point out that most if the fossil furniture items are not exactly "small" either, maybe the rusty can is but the rest are a fair size.

The whole "secret excavation site" thing is part of a glitch (an actual, useful glitch) which I won't go into here as it's not really allowed...

lol no good explaining now over a month and a half after i created it , i have since collected all the fossils and they're  sitting nicely in their display cases

Pictures please! :)

Pifft  just request invite when were on and ill show you, cant be bothered with all the messing around doing pics

OK, it's a date! lol

look forward to it

Well, taking the conversation back to digging tips, I found out something by pure fluke. If you wait to cash in your clumps of soil, the longer you wait the better the chances of getting something decent, or at least that's what is implied from the text that comes up about each lump when you talk to the bloke. I assume that's how you get the Ramphorhynchus fossils.

This was discovered by going to the bloke, selecting th fossils in turn but not actually geting them appraised, then going back the next day after doing some digging with new fossils and going down the list again and comparing while remembering which fossil sizes I already had and comparing from what he'd said the previous day. I've now waitied several days and checked each day; how the bloke describes the chances of each lump having anything in it seems to improve each day. The amount of improvement seems to vary lump by lump however.

Supposedly the girl that shows up three times a month on the 7th, 17th, and 27th days of the month is a bit more generous with her appraisals, so I have been saving my finds for her.  Can’t confirm if she is in fact more generous, but at least she is more pleasant to look at.

Well, it *looks* from this mornings run that although she *might* give more than one fossil per clod of soil, though that has yet to happen for me, she doesn't give better odds at have a decent fossil in that clod than you'd get from the bloke the prievious day. That is to say that the desciption she gives for each lump is the same desciption that the bloke gave yesterday. I've yet to confirm one way or the other if the bloke will give better descriptions for the same clumps of soil tomorrow or if I'll have to wait until the next day.

Will be interesting to find out one way or the other.

Seeing as there was an update recently, I think it gives me a fair excuse to use this thread again.

In Granzella, there is now two lucky charms. Now, what I wanted to know was what is the difference? I know the grey one is a rarity boost in digging but then what about the pink one? I'll really kick myself if I bought a completely useless one...

I think he is refeting to the Granzella appartement available in Japan. It looks like that southern hideout island, if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry about the late reply...

Whoa, easy Seribal! Who sh@ in your cornflakes this morning? I was not belittling you, simply pointing it out for your assistance. And trolling?! I did not mean it anything like that. I just didn't know if I was allowed, hence why I said advice.

Anyway...

I'll explain the story then. I didn't know if it was luck or a glitch, but hearing what Sam said, I suppose it was a glitch. I was just at my SFRGT apartment and saw a friend at the space. So, I decided to go there through 'go to friend'. Now it did take a little longer to load but when it did, I was a little confused to where I was. After moving around a bit, I figured I was quite high, overlooking the race lobby and shop. It was all just a narrow passage (Much like the accessible portion to wedding, fossils etc.). At the end was the wall, described as something like 'secret fossil wall'. It had an identical layout as the normal one and worked in the same way. Strangely, there was someone else up there as well but they left without talking.

Sorry again, no pictures because my camera was acting up but you can see exactly what I mean if you look high up to the right of the waterfall. Then just follow it along.

And there we go. To most of you this is not important but I just posted what I know. :smileyhappy:

Hi, Anyone bought the Collection plates? And if so am I the only person with a Fossil that doesn't seem to fit on the relevant one (Trilobite Head)?

EDIT: Just noticed that it is actually the upper half of the lower right space. Was wondering why it had a line through it. Duh! Once you realise it becomes kinda obvious.
