Guide to Sodium: Tips, Items and Walkthrough

[ Edited ]
18 Replies 5,674 Views edited 20-03-2010

This guide is from the sodium board in the US by pasufarin

I have permission to post this guide from pasufarin

It has been edited in places to suit the EU :smileywink:

Sodium is an exciting new game area in Home. Access the Sodium Hub in the Cental Plaza or via the World Map (under the Sodium chip).

Recent updates:

  • On March 12, we reached 30 million robotic scorpions stomped and easily met the goal time. As a reward, those who helped will get a free emoticon Home reward item the next time they visit the Sodium Hub.

  • On March 11, additional objectives and home rewards have been added to Desert Quench. Note that these are not retroactive. Scorpion Stomp has new grade stomper boots that are awarded at different milestones.

  • As of March 3, the reward items associated with invitations are now awarded with the Jibber Jabber objective. If you already have that objective, simply go to the Sodium Hub and you'll receive the items.

  • On February 25, the Salt Shooter Game space is back to being a personal space again and is no longer a public space.

  • On February 18 additional objective and home rewards have been added for the Salt Shooter. You will get any accolades for levels you've already completed once you play the Salt Shooter the first time after the update.

Once you enter the first time, you are given a personal space where the [SodiumOne] game is played. Note that unlike your other personal spaces, you cannot add any furnishings.

Also, the first time you enter the mini games and other "set dressings" have to download in the background. You'll see a Home System message in the chat log when they are done (white text with a Home symbol). You might want to wait a moment and let this process finish before you walk around too much. This place is quite immense.

In this space, there are a number of mini games and interactive objects.

VICKIE

[Salt Shooter] Tank Trainer

Scorpion Stomp

Desert Quench

In addition, there is a teleporter that takes you to the space where the SodiumOne game is located. There is also a Commerce Point for access to relevant items in the PS Store.

You don't have to pay anything to try out any of these games. You can play levels 1-5 of [SodiumOne] in the Salt Shooter Game and stomp on yellow scorpions. There is no cost to order drinks or mix them. If you want to play higher levels or stomp on other colors of scorpions, you'll need to buy some items (see below).

Ultimately, you'll be earning Sodium Credits Sodium credits that you can trade in for Home items.

Once everything is loaded, the first thing you should do is talk to VICKIE, the android NPC. She's in the room where you first enter, right in front of you. Then start exploring the rest of the Sodium Hub. If you get lost, you can check out a map of the space.

By the way, you can walk a far distance out and about the buildings. Don't worry: if you get too far away, you'll be teleported back to just outside Scorpio's. Explore away!

[Salt Shooter] Tank Trainer

The [Salt Shooter] Tank Trainer is a very pared down version of the Sodium One game played in the arena attached to the hub's "buildings".

For every enemy you destroy, you get 0.2 points. Find out how high of a score you can get! If you do well enough, you can complete objectives and recevie sodium credits when they unlock.

Scorpion Stomp

Scorpion Stomp is a mini-game located near Scorpios, the bar. There is a smaller stomping ground near the Twitter screens. Your goal is quite straightforward: stomp scorpions!

Scorpions come in three colors: yellow, red, and blue.

Scorpions:

  • yellow
    • medium
    • Anyone can stomp these. You don't have to buy anything.
    • 1 point
  • red
    • large
    • Wear the Stomper Boots (from Commerce Point) to be able to stomp these.
    • 5 points
  • blue
    • small
    • You need to drink Vetoxade from Scorpios to be able to stomp these (see below). Stomper Boots are not required.
    • 3 points

Beware when stomping scorpions! If you get stung, your screen turns greenish and blotchy for a short time. While it's like this, you cannot stomp and are susceptible to even more stings if you get close to a scorpion. The sting from a blue scorpion iasts longer.

Tip: even though the hints suggest it's best to approach from the back, it seems easier to stomp if you are running across the scorpion from the side. Imagine your path as going along a line from a rear leg to the front leg on the opposite side. You can even stomp while dancing! Go ahead, give it a try!

Vetoxade

You get a Vetoxade in the Scorpio's bar by combining a cross glass, green beverage, sodium stirrer, and a strawberry. There are no requirements for difficulty, but just be sure that the bartender serves you the right drink. Vetoxade allows you to stomp the blue scorpions for a limited time and provides immunity to all scorpion stings. Once you drink it, a meter appears in the top left corner of the screen and drains away after 100 seconds. Once it's gone, you'll need to drink another Vetoxade to get the effects again.

Now that you know about the types of scorpions and how to stomp them, you need to know about points and the multiplier.

Multipliers

In the top right is your combo counter. As you stomp scorpions, your counter goes up. If you get stung, your counter goes back to the beginning of the previous multiplier level. For every ten (10) robotic scorpions that you stomp without being stung, a glowing orb lights up and your combo increases. At first your max combo is 4x, and you will stay at your max even if you keep stomping without being stung. In order to increase it, you'll need to unlock higher levels by geting higher scores during a single session. You'll get an objective message when you unlock them and a new orb will appear. Once you have a multiplier unlocked, it remains so for all future sessions.

  • First unlockable multiplier
    • 6x
    • unlocks at 800 session points
  • Second unlockable multiplier
    • 8x
    • unlocks at 6,000 session points
  • Third and final unlockable multiplier
    • 10x
    • unlocks at 90,000 session points

As long as you stay in Sodium Hub (and don't travel to a different space or instance of it) your score and counts are all retained. So feel free to walk out of the stomping grounds, go to the bar, hang out with your friends and come back and stomp some more.

Stomper Boot Grades

If you have purchased the Stomper Boots, then you'll be awarded with upgraded versions of the boots as you stomp red scorpions. These reward items are new pairs of boots with the grade number indicated by a glowing white number on the side. There are a total of five grades of new boots, with the unlocks at 25, 300, 600, 2000, and 5000 red robotic scorpions.

You can you can equip these new boots to add points to each red scorpion stomped, with the number of points matching the grade. These points are added before the multiplier, so they can really increase your score. Note that the boots have to be worn to get the bonus points; just having them in your inventory is not enough!

Desert Quench

Desert Quench is played in Scorpio's, the bar of the Sodium Hub.

There are two roles in the game: the bartender and the customer. The customer places an order be selecting from a pad. There are four slots of choices with many options for each choice. The bartender takes the order and plays a memory game to create the order as quickly and accurately as possible. After the drink is served, the customer plays a button press mini game to consume it.

This is where Vetoxade is obtained for Scorpion Stomp and it is made by combining a cross glass, green beverage, sodium stirrer, strawberry. There are no requirements for difficulty, but just be sure that the bartender serves you the right drink.

Bartending now can earn you credits when you are wearing both the Bartender. The baseline score is 5 sodium credits for each correct component of the drink, so there's a maximum of 20 sodium credits per drink.

Drinking accurately also gives credits, and the number of credits depends on the difficulty level and accuracy. Easy has a baseline of 3, medium 6 and hard 10. These baselines are multiplied by the accuracy percentage and rounded down.

    Equipment

Since it's more involved, the items in the Change Equipment menu is broken out below. I'll be adding equipment as I and others find them.

You can spend upgrade parts to give boosts to your equipment. The amount needed to upgrade to the next level is indicated in parentheses. The cost to upgrade to each level is double, so only the cost of the first upgrade is shown. For instance, Mk1 (3) indicates that the progressions is Mk1 (3) : Mk2 (6) : Mk3 (12) : Mk4 (24) : Mk5 (48) for a total of 93 upgrade parts. Similarly, Mk1 (6) indicates that the progressions is Mk1 (6) : Mk2 (12) : Mk3 (24) : Mk4 (48) : Mk5 (96) for a total of 186 upgrade parts. Once you upgrade, you cannot respec and get the upgrade parts back, so upgrade what you need and don't waste your parts on a piece of equipment you won't use or will be soon replacing.

    Drops

As you play a game, when you destroy your enemies, they can drop items. There are three different colors of pickups:

    1. gold can be upgrade parts or resources (gold, silver, silicon) that you can trade at VICKIE for credits,
    2. red restock your missiles, and
    3. blue replenish some of your health.

Each pickup can contain a multiplier, so you might get 3x silicon from a single gold pickup.

    Missions: Waves and Unlocks

In general, each mission has two waves of differing numbers and kinds of enemies. These range from flying ships to towers.

You will acquire new equipment as you complete missions.

    General tips:

Always be sure to go equip any new items that you get. That's not done automatically for you. Also, you can replay a level to get more upgrade parts to improve your equipment. You will likely need to do this in order to get past the bosses. If you find a level too hard, think about upgrading or trying a different strategy.

Pay attention to your heat per shot from your guns and missiles. This becomes important once you start upgrading, as you don't want to overheat in the midst of battle, otherwise you will have to wait until you cool down.

For the towers that begin to appear in Mission 3, you should keep your distance and take out the defense / offense side towers before taking out the central one. If you have enough DPS, you can take out towers just as they land. If you're able to take out the central tower, the suppor ones crash upon landing (though you get no pickups or points). It's a good idea to lure enemies away from the towers and use the blue pickups wisely.

    Boss level tips:

    Level 5

    • You'll need to upgrade your equipment. Don't forget about your Light Point Defense Laser, as that will help with some of the boss's attacks. Try to get through the first wave with full health if possible by moving from the left or right instead of flying between the two groups of enemies. Once the boss appears, take out the support tanks as quickly as possible and keep your distance from the boss tank. This boss does not have any particular weakness, but should go down reasonably fast with your upgraded missiles.

    Objectives

The objectives you'll be completing revolve around social activities in the space, games, and interaction with in-game NPC's.

Initially, you'll have three types of Objectives, with the fourth added soon:

    Sodium Sodium

    Scorpio's Scorpio's

    Scorpions Scorpion

    [SodiumOne] [SodiumOne]

These involve admin actions, playing the bartending minigame at Scorpio's, stomping Scorpions, and playing the [SodiumOne] game.

You can get credits and sometimes Home rewards for completing objectives. Both of these are noted in the list below.

Check on which objectives you have by talking to VICKIE and choosing Objectives. You can also check your status online at http://www.sodiumone.com/ after signing in. As you progress in an objective that requires doing sometime multiple times, the grey line will fill up with the number you have completed shown on the right.

Fully completed objectives will turn red, like so:

    Sodium complete

Note: that you can complete an objective even if it's currently hidden from display on the screen.

    Excellent post!

Can I ask, what do you get in terms of 'game impact' for the Vickie statue, glowsticks and Blue animated shoes ?

    EDIT

Also, are the new guns any good compared to the anti tank guns - and can you put them both in your apartment AND on your ship (or do you have to choose which) ?

There is no 'game impact' of the vickie statue, glowsticks and blue animated shoes (this was the mistake I made, its so annoying that you carn't edit it :Argh:)

As for the new guns, the missiles are good once you get used to them and the gun isn't like the rail guns as it shoots many bullets not just one at a time (this is also good once you get used to it) =D
