Re: Mixed Languages

No one is a "problem", I just can't see why with todays technology, and with the fact that home knows what language we speak, the system can't put those speaking the same language together or at least prioritise.

It's easy to jest how you just have to look round for people, but the other night I could not find anyone speaking English in the home square which was the reason I posted this message.  I then checked my friends list and someone I knew was in home in the home square, so I ported to them and there were some English people in another home square.  Surely the system should make some kind of decision to put speakers of the same language together.

Now, my point is, if I did not have the friend online I would have been stuck in an area with no English speakers.........home becomes dull and I don't bother with it....this is my point.

Home either makes it easy for people to socialise, or it does not and less people use it.  A simple difference between a successful social networking site and an unsuccessful social networking site - it has to be easy to communicate.

Re: Mixed Languages

If they did that it would go the same way as Guild Wars. ArenaNet started to add a different region for different languages. All that happened was all regions got quieter, and it did NOTHING for happy language segregation.

Usually people of the same language tend to accrue in groups. Just avoid speaking to those groups if it worries you so.

Yeah maybe home just isn't busy enough, but if this is the case why not join US, Japan and EU home together?

Re: Mixed Languages

I still think there should be universal spaces, where ALL territories can go. These could have NO shops, so out-of-area DLC purchasing would not be an issue.

Re: Mixed Languages

Why wouldn't they want to mix all the languages in one place though? Between the people on my friendslist they speak roughly 20 different languages... shock horror, most of them post in the English speaking section of this very forum. Your proposal would stop things like that as it aims towards seperation rather than bringing together.

I would say that a vast majority of Home users speak English as a second or even third language but they can still speak it. Pushing them towards what could possibly be a very small amount of people is pretty much pointless. Home is designed so that people from all over can get together, not to serve the needs of laziness.

The L1 presets are automatically translated into the users default language, using them of course makes the other user think you can understand what they're saying. Sure it can lead to a little awkward moment but other than that, it's all good. Finding people who speak the same language as you is only difficult if you stop at the first people you come across.

Re: Mixed Languages

[ Edited ]

Well, perhaps I'd want to be able to meet all my Euro friends whilst I'm logged into my HK account with my HK friends, and it would be the users' choice to go there. My proposal isn't forcing anyone to do anything.

Also, my above idea is not based on language, but territory. Perhaps all the English speaking SE Asian residents would like to go to Europe without having to create a dummy account (against Sony's ToC if you're using false addresses) and looking like a noob scruff because you have no PS Store funding in that currency.

The only person who should be scared of the idea is someone suffering from xenophobic demophobia.

My apologies, my post wasn't aimed at what you had written above, more at the main thought of the thread.

I have no issues with the wanting of a multi-regional space much like they did during the world cup in the summer. That was a space that should never have been removed but I believe it was being used as a trial to look at how it would work.

Re: Mixed Languages

I certainly don't think Home forcing people into rooms with those who speak the same language would be a good thing.  However, thinking about it, a few rooms dedicated to certain spoken languages wouldn't go amiss.  I do sometimes wander around Home and see very few people speaking English, and I do feel a little lost perhaps.  But that very rarely happens.
