The Best Thing About Home Is...

Hi Everyone!

New to the forums here and pretty new to Home...So how about a few people tell me exactly why they love Home and what the best things to do in it are? A very generic question I know but from looking through previous posts people here are pretty passionate and certainly know their stuff so who better to get some more information from!

Welcome to the forums then JD.

For me personally, the best thing about home is the avatar creation. The range of content now is so diverse, the only real limits are your imagination and budget. Its also nice to be able to meet and chat to people from different countries. Thanks to home I now know how to swear in Dutch, Italian, German, Spanish, French and Arabic :P

Home is different for everyone though, some people use it just to play the mini games, some use it to find people to play games with, I mean REAL ps3 games now not the mini games in home, and others use it to socialise and talk about a wide range of topics.

My advice to you if you are relatively new to home is visit EVERY space on the navigator first, suck up all the free items you can find, also look on the ps store as there are some free home items on there too which are NOT on home. Once you have done all that and seen what there is to see just spark up a conversation with the odd random person and see where it goes from there. Above all else though dont take it serious and also develop a very thick skin and I'm sure you'll enjoy home for what it is. Good luck

Personally for me it has to be spending time with friends on there, you do eventually meet some really good people. I have to echo what Fury says though, he has given you possibly the best advice xD

P.s... Fury is it just me or are you getting soft in your old age??? :P

Welcome JDizzle! I can only speak for myself when I say this but I think one of the best things to do in Home is just simple socializing really. But for that you need friends, and to get them you have to wander around and find convos you'd like to join into etc, which has its own set of rules which I'm not going into right now coz I'll get accused of writing another uni essay lol.

The worst thing about Home is that smelly dude called Fritches :smileylol:

JK mate :) best thing about Home? Probably the main part of it, the social aspect. And arguably it's also the worst part of it, too.

:smileysurprised: .....  I say that smell is masculinity ;)

@OP erm I would say it's  the community. With events thrown by the community for the community makes Home worth coming back to again and again.

The best thing about Home? Well for me personally it's a lot of things, I enjoy the games scattered around, the rewards they give, personal spaces, especially ones with a game built in, avatar items, pets (portable items) and just wandering around. As for the social side, it's alright sometimes with the right people, but it has a bad side too.

The best thing about home for me would have to be the friendships.  You can find better graphics, characters, worlds to explore, etc. on just about any game these days, but home is hard to beat for meeting interesting people from all walks of life.

I pretty much use Home for just the minigames.

I am usually doing something else when I'm using Home so often, for a fun background distraction, I will lurk my avatar near the biggest idiot I can find and lol at their conversation for a while. Then eventually report them because they don't reach 'idiot' status without breaking a few rules.

Well if you’re going on Home for just the games then that would make you a mini-gamer.  Sorry could not resist.

Casino? Better throw your money directly out of the window. But please wait until I stand underneath it, ok?

Just one beg, throw notes, no coins, might not hurt that much if you hit me by accident.

@Williamhughes: Make no mistake Mr.Hughes, I am a gamer! Go ahead, ask me anything you'd like about the games industry! I've been playing games on a TV forged from hemp and computers fashioned from rope and stone!!! And yes, I mean the days before the invention of the console lol.

It's really because of this that the social network within a virtual space is so special to me. What we now call
"mini games" are what we used to just call games, but we've moved on from that. I expect depth in my games now, depth and immersion. And there's NO mini-game in Home that can offer that level (yet). Because of this, the games within Home are nothing more than a fun distraction for the quieter times to me. If you wanna game, put on Skyrim or Zelda, Metriod, Fallout, inFamous, Uncharted or whatever; button mashers or pot-luck mini games in Home just don't touch the sides of my gaming belly!
Home is for meeting other gamers, or even just new friends that share a slight interest in the gaming industry. By the way, the tone of this post may seem a little curt, I didn't intend for it to come across like that. Carry on...

Never quite understood why some people who come on home just lurk, dont speak to anyone and just play the games. Its a bit like having a dvd player and then using it just for the clock on the front and not watch movies on it. Sony originally intended home to be a 3d social gaming network/chat room. A way of gamers to reach out across the globe and make friends and chat, and to me at least, it still is. The mini games are just a bonus. Like Krazy says, if I want to play games i'll stick one of those shiney round things in my ps3 and PLAY A REAL GAME with a bit of depth. I guess some people are just too socially awkward to have conversations on home though or too jaded by all the trolls. As I said before we all have different reasons for using it and all get different things from it.

Two months ago I would have agreed with you. But now I tend to prefer to only play the games and not worry myself with the social side - Its done nothing but cause trouble for me.
