Which Home is the most stable ???

38 Replies 308 Views Created 13-07-2012

Ok , lets not mess about anymore . We all know that nearly every user of this forum has more than one account and that a lot of us visit the other Homes . My favourite is the Japanese Home which leads me to this observation.

I visit the Japanese Home 2 or 3 times a week and it takes 30 seconds at the most to log in to it and I have never , I repeat NEVER been booted or crashed or had my PS3 freeze while using it . Very different from when I use the EU or NA Homes which can sometimes take as long as 15 to 20 mins to log in to and of course I'm constantly getting the errors which are such a popular topic of this forum .

So I guess my question is , is the Japanese Home team better at there job than the teams of the other Homes . I accept that all the Homes are very different from each other , especially Europe with all the different languages that need to be catered for . But after being live for 4 or 5 years now  ( i'm not really sure when Home started ) you would think all the teams would have some sort of handle on making the place stable . Please let me know what you think about this because i'm sure its not just me that thinks this , or maybe it is ??????

How about which version of Home has the most stable people in it? :D:smileyfrustrated:

Definetely Playstation Home Japan. Too bad nowdays there's a large influx of 'imigrants' from US and EU that sometimes ruin the enviorment due to their stupidity... the things I have read on the chat... :smileyindifferent:

Home is the same worldwide. If you get better performance on some accounts compared to others its probably because you have less content or save data on it.

To be honest it is what is on ur HDD that does effect ur home stability in my point of view such things as game data, pictures, saved files, and such things as items from home u have purchased... the more ur HDD is packed the slower things will load or download on psh

Hmm, so by the time my PS3s 1TB HDD is full it'll take about a week to load up Home then?

Good to know, I suppose...

I think it does partially go by how much you have saved to your HDD. This account takes 2 minutes to load up because there's not as much on it :)

not as long as that but it wont be as fast as say someone that has half their harddrive full of content... the difference may be a few minutes or a few seconds both HDD and ur connection depends on how quick or how fast things on home load up or download.

The amount of storage your PS3 hard drive can hold should have no affect on Home performance. The amount of storage space Home can use is capped. This cap is called the Cache Size and currently the maximum is 12GB. So Home will not use or require any more than 12GB of disk space in the hard drive. The larger your cache the more content you can download. If your cache is 12GB you will be able to download quite a bit but Home will take longer to start up because it has more to load. If your cache is 3GB (the standard) then Home will start up faster but things will be downloading during your session making certain things in Home take longer to load.

On the other side of this is connection speed. The faster your connection the faster content will download. There are multiple factors that can affect your connecting speed ranging from the NIC on the console to the speed of the switch to your link connecting you to the internet.

If your connection speed is slow I'd recommend a larger cache to prevent continued performance issues on Home. It may take longer to load, but once it does the performance will increase.

@KrazyFace filling all 1TB of storage on your PS3 will have no impact on Home.

Wow GB, did you swallow the manual!? But hey, also good to know, I set my cache size to 12gigs ages ago, must be why it takes ages. I have my PS3 running through an Ethernet cable for connection, not sure how much faster that is to WiFi TBH. Any ideas?

Remember in high school maths when you were taught maxium flow? (If not catch up here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximum_flow_problem) thats how networks work.

If you have one of the old Phat PS3s your PS3 connection speed is limited to 100mpbs.

If you have one of the newer slim PS3s your connection is limited to 1000mbps.

So locally your PS3 speed is limited to either one of those.

Next is the router/switch. If it supports Gigabit then you can get 1000mbps through it, but then you will also require a CAT6 or higher ethernet cable to allow the full 1000mbps to your console.

If the router is not Gigabit (then its a bit old) your speed is capped at 100mbps.

Again these are local speeds. Not internet speeds.

Next comes your connection to the internet. You can find this speed here: http://www.speedtest.net

This is your actual internet speed and any internet traffic cannot exceed this speed passing through your network. So you may have Gigabit links to your PS3 but if your Internet speed is only 1mbps then thats all your PS3 is going to get.

This is going a bit off topic though. The OP was about which region of home is the most stable, not how fast your download speed is.

I find EU to be more stable than US, less network errors and such. I wouldnt say thats down to the EU home team responsible for feeding the hamster that runs around in the wheel powering the server being any better at their jobs to their US counterparts though.

Maybe a bit off topic Fury, but really when it comes down to it, all these things factor into one cohesive whole to give you a personal Home upload/download speed. If we're talking about just the Sony servers tied to each region, then yeah, there might be slight differences there, but on the whole I think what really matters is what your personal ISP, router and other things are set at.

Perhaps because they have more powerfull servers... Asia is the number one when it comes to hosting capabilities.

Every region is hosted on the same servers. Home is one big web application. Its your account which determins what you see and have access to, not the server you connect to.

As you login to Home it looks at what country your from (as specified when creating the account) and displays appropriate content for that country.

You may just be extremely lucky Clare.
JP has its issues too, including a lot of script corruption problems with certain space.

Or so I've heard ;)
