I'm trying to run some code in the simulator but constantly running into this message:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Sce\Sce.Pss.Common.targets(5,5): Error MSB3021: Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\convertedpdb\pssapp.exe.mdb" to "bin\Debug\testapp-unsigned\Application\pssapp.exe.mdb". The process cannot access the file 'bin\Debug\testapp-unsigned\Application\pssapp.exe.mdb' because it is being used by another process. (MSB3021) (testapp)

It always happens the second time that I try to run my app, and the only way that I can get it to go away is to quit PSS Studio and reload.

If I don't set any breakpoints, it works fine every time - but that's not particularly useful.

I tend to have this a lot as well lately. Relase works fine, but Debug just works once, and then I have to restart the Suite to be able to Debug again.

Not an answer sorry. Just want to say I get this all the time too.

Basically the pssapp.exe.mdb is locked and can't be deleted until I exit PssStudio

Somtimes I can go an hour or more without getting the error but sometimes it's every run after the first since I restarted. Restarting the computer doesn't seem to make and more or less likely to happen.

I've also tried running with or without admin permissions.

Interesting comment about breakpoints!

Just to be clear, are you stopping the execution of the first simulator (Run > Stop) before you are trying to re-launch?

I do though often the emulator crashes at that point which might be related

Yes, I'm stopping the execution before trying to re-launch.

It turns out that this bug isn't as consistent as I first thought. It was happening 100% of the time when I originally posted, but I had a whole day yesterday when it only happened once.

I've managed to make it consistent for me. Steps are

Open project

Add break point to a line

Debug code

When code breaks at break point continue execution

When game loads close PSS simulator

Remove break point

Make a change to code (I just changed a single int that was a colour)

Try debug

It'll crap out and give that same error

Edit: another bug by the way can't seem to change break points whilst debugging?

Just to let you know I'm having the same issue which I reported in another thread.

although still a pain, I've found using one of the file unlocker programs works, and at least allows you to keep undos and history etc.

also it shows that its being locked by psmstudio.exe itself.
