Running apps on the PS Vita. How to?

Hi all.

First time Pss developer here.  I just downloaded the open beta suite and tinkering with it on my Windows 7 (64-bit) virtual machine running on a Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.3  via VMware Fusion.  So far so good, but had a question regarding running the samples on my PS Vita.

When I click on the "Start Program without Debugging" button (or Ctrl-F5), I get a message indicating that the application was uploaded to the device, but when I look at the Development Assistant screen running on the Vita, nothing happens.  The build bar in the Studio indicates that the app might be running... somewhere as the Stop button is available for clicking.  Back on the Vita, I find that I am forced to quit the Development Assistant app and restart it in order to see the sample app that was uploaded.  Touching it causes it to run without issues, though it is no longer attached as a running process from Studio.  Is this how you guys are doing it, or is something up with my setup?

Also, when I try to run the app with the Start Debugging button (or F5), I get a "Failed to launch app on device  00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000002: error -2147418102" error.  Perhaps remote debugging is not available yet?

Thanks for any info.

Re: Running apps on the PS Vita. How to?

Another user mentioned he was getting the same error when running the Suite from within Parallels on a Mac.  When he tried booting up using Boot Camp, it worked.  I can't verify that on my end, but hopefully someone can provide some insight on getting it working from a windowed virtual machine.

Entered a bug for this in Bugzilla.  Bug # 4553.

Re: Running apps on the PS Vita. How to?

I don't think that the PSvita Since it's a retail Unit, can perform Debug Features unless i am wrong.. But do Try To debug the Application with in the Simulator to see if it works with out flaws.

Once you see it works fine on the Simulator try to transfer it to the PSVita so you can verify it's really working..

Re: Running apps on the PS Vita. How to?

Thanks for the reply.  I would asume that debugging would work whether it's a retail unit or not... At least that's what I thought the PS Vita's Development Assistant software was for.

I am able to debug using the assistant, so I can use that for now.

Has anyone else successfully debugged (F5) software directly on their PS Vita?

Re: Running apps on the PS Vita. How to?

Hey Psygnosis,

Regarding your point about the workflow for uploading the application to the PS Vita, this is not our desired workflow. When the application is deployed onto the device it should automatically run through the application (with a possible delay of a few seconds). I am glad to hear that you have a temporary workaround to it, but I'll reflect the problems internally to see if theres anything that we can correct.

We'll chat about the second problem on the other post your participating in, if thats ok?

We have some known issues with debugging on the PS Vita at the moment, and it reflects the problems that your having. Sorry about that.

Thanks

James
