Custom widgets in UIComposer

Currently the list of available widgets in the UIComposer is rather limited.

Therefore, I would like to add my own developed custom widgets to one of the UIComposer WidgetLists.

I have created a very simple custom widget (derived from Widget) that can be added in code without any problems. However, I would like to be able to see and use my widget in the UIComposer besides the other widgets to get the complete picture during design.

...\SCE\Pss\tools\UIComposer\Resource\WidgetList.xml seems to have entries where one can add custom widgets.

Something like:

<Gruop>

<Name>Custom Widgets</Name>

<Expand>true</Expand>

<Uid>WidgetList_04</Uid>

<Id>26</Id>

<!-- MyVerySpecialCustomWidget -->

</Gruop>

Besides the rather strange name <Gruop> in this xml file (shouldn't this be <Group>?), it does not seem to do anything with this information when starting the UIComposer.

Also added a WidgetList_MyVerySpecialSpecialCustomWidget.xml in ...\SCE\Pss\tools\UIComposer\Resource\Widgets but still no effect.

Hopefully someone can tell if custom components are or will be supported in the UIComposer?

What steps are needed to add a custom component?

Re: Custom widgets in UIComposer

Hi Potato4H3ad,

Sorry UI Composer does not support other types of widgets apart from the default ones straight out of the box, however I appreciate that this would be useful for many developers. Please could you submit a feature request in the new suggestions section and tag it with "UI Composer"? Hopefully other developers can up vote it, and this will better help us judge the most requested features.

Re: Custom widgets in UIComposer

Hi James,

I already had added a suggestion (Opentools API for the UI Composer to extend it with custom widgets) for this.

Do you know how a suggestion can be changed afterwards (I would like to add the tags UI Composer to it)?

Re: Custom widgets in UIComposer

With regards to your answer,

I do hope that Sony are going to pick this up.

Hower, in case that Sony is not going to open up this UI Composer enviromnent for custom widgets (using a kind of Open Tools API), is it allowed to develop our own UI Composer and deploy it commercially?

With who should we talk about this?

Re: Custom widgets in UIComposer

Hi,

I believe that you have a 30 minute window to edit your posts. I've asked out moderation team to add the tag. :smileyhappy:

I will have to confirm whether it will be allowed.

Thanks,

Re: Custom widgets in UIComposer

We will be adding a feature to the next version of the SDK which will allow you to add custom widgets in the UI Composer. You will be able to adjust the size and position of the custom widgets for now.

Thanks
