Move for "third person" action games

[ Edited ]

According to an article I read a while back, when Naughty Dog's Keith Guerette was asked if they were planning on adding Move support to Uncharted 3, he replied that Sony had asked them about it, but: "What we determined is that there really was no good way to properly take advantage of the Move without changing the game play, language, and presentation of Uncharted as we know it.".

When I read that I thought "Well, I sure as heck don't know, and I'm sure they do, so I'll take his word for it." (with the obligatory head-scratching over what he could mean with regards to "change the language of Uncharted", but I digress).

The other day I played inFamous 2 with Move, and I've gotta say it was a little bit like when I decided to play God of War Collection Volume 2 with 3D. "This can't be good; it's not the right type of game for it.", etc. But I was blown away.

I haven't given the specific Uncharted control schemes any thought; perhaps there are parts in Uncharted which would not be translatable to the Move controller, but after having played inFamous 2 with Move, at least I know "third person"-games and Move have the potential to work very well together.

I hope Naughty Dog change their mind, and I hope more third-person games get Move support. At least if its done properly, like in inFamous 2.

Resident evil 4 & 5 had no problem running with motion controll.

So why people are suprised that it can work for Third person, I dont know.

All it does is replace the right analogue stick.

For me, it was a case of thinking that it in first-person games the translation from real world person to the game world character is much simpler, and in a way very natural. While the same conversion in third-person games is more complicated, and the mapping would feel less intuitive.

My wild speculation was wrong, and I'm happy about it.

Re: Move for "third person" action games

I totally agree with InFamous 2 working well with the Move the game was patched while i was part way through i played half my evil play through with Move + DS3 (must get round to buying a Nav stick) it worked really well.

As for Uncharted 3 with the Move i am not sure it will translate well shooting would probably be fine but rolling and ducking in and out of cover and climbing and platforming seems more suited for the DS3 i think games like Dead Space 1+2 and Red Faction Armageddon would translate well to Move with them being more shooter based with little cover and climbing required in game.

Re: Move for "third person" action games

Again go play RE4 on WII.

You climb ladders, dive in and out of windows, Jump down in to areas and climb back up.

You dodge attacks. Do QTE... for cut scenes. Like uncharted, RE4 had alot of boring Platforming in it.

On the Nav controller you have 2 more buttons than the  left side of DS3, So you can have even more functions while in cover.
