6gb game = 2gb when downloading? Error 80029563

I've searched google, the EU and US forums, no solution anywhere. The error code doesn't even exist on this site.

I just bought Crysis 2 off the US PSN store. In the download list in the store I see all the DLCs and the Crysis 2 game which is 6gb. When I add it to my download list, it shows up as being only 2gb? So I downloaded it anyway, then got error 80029563 when I tried to install it. So I went back to the store and re-downloaded it, the 6gb file turns into a 2gb once added to my download list, I've tried 5 times. I've deleted the Crysis 2 file from game data utility, still downloads as 2gb.

I've downloaded plenty of games over the years without any problems and I have 81gb free. I have NO idea what's causing this.

I went back to my download list and RE-added some previous successful full game downloads to pinpoint the cause.

5 Dec 2011: Split Second 6383mb, adds to my list in full size

25 Feb 2012: De Blob 2, full size 6gb but like Crysis 2 only appears in my download list as 2gb!

28 Feb 2012: KZ3 mp demo, 4gb, adds to my list in full size

29 May 2012: Black Ops, 18gb, adds to my list also in full size.

So only De Blob 2 adds an incomplete/corrupt download, even thought I HAD downloaded this in febuary successfully. So why are certain games not adding to my download list in full? It can't be the size of the game because Black Ops is 18gb and it downloads in full fine. It can't be my connection, otherwise I'd have this problem with all my downloads. If it can handle a 18gb file, why not 6gb?

It can't be at my end, I think it must be the server itself which has a corrupt file?

Re: 6gb game = 2gb when downloading? Error 80029563

seriously, I can't edit threads on here unlike the US forum? anyway.. it's solved.

After searching heaps of threads I found 3 people who said it was related to the ISP, another said it was the PSN server's cache which happens when they go down for maintenance (makes sense for me, because the PSN store went down for maintenance a few seconds after I purchased the game!) and another one person switched ISP to get it working.

I added it to my download list again this morning and now it comes out as 6gb in full. Must have been either my ISP or the PSN server.

You can edit threads, but only for a short period after the original posting (something like 24 hours it seems to me).

I'm glad your problem's solved.

I was allowed to edit my post on the US forum about 6 hours later, but on here it was closed off after 20 minutes or so.

Re: 6gb game = 2gb when downloading? Error 80029563

I should update this, the problem wasn't solved. It keeps resetting to 2gb when I turn my PS3 on, I literally see it change from 6gb to 2gb in the download list. I delete it and re-download again and every 2nd or 3rd time it downloads correctly at 6gb, the other times it's 2gb, so the inconsistency shows it must be a HDD problem.

I ran the safe mode and chose option 3 (restore file system). It found the HDD was corrupt, tried to restore, got stuck halfway then forced me to FORMAT!! fortunately I backed up my saves before this, just to prepare for the worst.

So bottom line, if you get this problem it's either your connection or your HDD or file system is corrupt. I scanned the HDD with seatools on PC and it passed all tests, the HDD is fine, so it must be the PS3's useless file system. Too many crashes in BF3 and DCUO off the HDD is probably the reason.

Hmm ! And I dont think its just that game either, I d/loaded Prince of Persia, installed it and my PS3 crashed . Then it said the database was corrupted and would be re-formatted. How cool , eh ?

Re: 6gb game = 2gb when downloading? Error 80029563

No don't blame it on the download causing the problem, the corrupted download is only the first SIGN that there IS a problem on your HDD or file system. I think my problem was caused by lots of Gotham City Impostors crashes/freezes as I've been playing that game a lot over the last month, but who knows.

Everyone should take this as a lesson to make regular backups of your saves. Firmware 4.20 now allows us to copy ALL our saves in ONE go, before this it was 1 at a time which took bloody ages. It took me 5 mins to copy all my saves and I've made multiple backups.
