AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

Hey guys don't know if this idea has been put out there before but will say it anyway.

Decided last night to play sum littlebigplanet, now havn't played in a few months so when i switched it on I had to wait for no less than 8 updates to download and install, by which time I was well board and not in the mood anymore to play ... even though I did untill the wee hrs of the morning haha love that game ... anyway I digress ... It gave me an idea.

Why not have an auto update feature on the x-bar that auto downloads and updates any game you have installed files for on ya ps3's HDD,  they could even have options to turn it on or off for different games, so if liike me you fancy a bash on a game you havn't played in a while your not waiting aggggeesss to play it because of months worth of updates. Anyone else agree or feel this would be a worthy feature ?

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

Problem is, the machine can;t download AND run, say, a game. SO if something auto-updates the moment something is found, its being annoyingmwhen you dont want it to be. (understand?). So if I turn on to plau Uncharted say, and it detects LBP updates, why wait for those to auto-download when I want to play something else? If I want to play LBP, sure I'll wait.

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

It would be good though if it knew the games you played (through game saves) and even displayed an update was available and could be background downloaded sitting (hidden) waiting to install. I guess the OP is thinking along the lines of how the ipod touch apps display an update available.

Certainly would be a great idea. Not sure if its too late for them to go down that route mind you.

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

yer even an alert system to tell you updates are available would be nice, then you could download them when not playing.

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

This feature would be extremely handy and ideally games need to be updated ASAP so that your always ready if you want to play online with someone. This is even more important when it comes down to Game Launching in Home which fires you straight into a game, but if theres an update you get prompted to download it and cannot use the XMB to let your opponent/party know that you have to run an update.

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

Actually, I like this idea. Given the option to turn notifications on or off (obviously) it could check to see if games have an update on signing in and prompt me if I want to download, would be pretty cool then I could do a few at a time rather then checking each game individually.

I'd like the option to download updates via pc using a peer to peer system a a torrent you could make it so that you log in with your psn I'd and then they'd be no problems with not being able to play while downloading and then either put then on a cd or USB stick or memory card also as Sony charges developers for bandwith it would stress sonys servers less and save developers and companies money would also give more independant publishers chance to showcase their work by possibly allowing them to make demos of lesser know games and distribute them at little or no cost

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

Salty, maybe it could work as an option you have to manually do that covers all; your games. For example there could be an option in the XMB that says 'check for games updates' which would then check every game you have save/game data for to see if an update is available, and if there is maybe you could queue all the updates to get them done all at once.

Re: AUTO GAME UPDATER ?

Even in a worst case scenario. you clicked the "check for updates" button. It checked against your save games and just listed that updates were available and didnt even download them. At least you'd be aware of them.
