Are playstation network cards region locked?

I bought my PS3 in the US so obviously im using a US PSN account and I just recently transferred to Canada but when I bought  a playstation network card I keep geeting an error that my card is not correct or no longer valid does anyone have this problem?

You wont have to make a new account, Just go online and get a US code, or top up your account via credit card.
