At wits end with psn

So I've been at Uni and we've broken up for the xmas holidays, been looking forward to some quality time on the PS3 PSN as I have much more time now to do so, but there's one annoying problem - my network just won't remain stable.

It's ok now and again - at random times, and I can play games online no problem, however the vast majority of the time it WILL not work, or if it does I'll disconnect and sign out within 5 minutes.

I'm stumped as to why though, we've a new 5mb broadband installed which is much faster than the 512 KB's we had previously (although I reach about 3 max on wireless), so that isn't a problem. The nat type, when it is not "FAILED", is nat type 2, which I read is fine, so that isn't a problem. The signal strength is about 50%, which is fine as previously with 512kb I could connect and play online PSN with this no problem.

I have tried settings on easy,  eventually custom, tried enabling DMZ and tried enabling UPNP, disconnecting media servers, re-connecting media servers, I just DON'T GET IT and would love whoever can tell me what is wrong with my PSN.

What is aggravating even more is my laptop works fine in the same exact same room on wireless as well, with the odd disconnection here and there.

50% is still quite low considering you're looking for a stable wireless connection. You mentioned having changed your ISP. Are you using a different router or the same one that was giving the 50% signal strength? My solution would be to get the signal strength to 75%+

Im having similar problems im with Orange Broadband and its been fine up until recently. Im looking into the port forward option at the moment as apparently Orange traffic shape and forwarding ports can help solve this

Re: At wits end with psn

have u tried dmz seperate from enabling upnp? not both at the same time? and disabling it on the router aswell as the ps3?
50% signal in the same room is quite weak though - i would liek to see at least 80% for gaming.
Port forwarding may or may not help, could you give anymore details on your network?

Re: At wits end with psn

Not suprised your getting problems with signal that low.

Try changing the wireless channel. Think the most common ones are 6 or 11.

Re: At wits end with psn

I've got no problems with my connection as the signal strengeth is at 50%... on a 512kb broardband connection...

When i did have problem... it was because another device had started to use the same IP address as the PS3 so I assigned the PS3 to a IP address that i know wouldn't be used by another device...

Also i find that I have problems when someone else is using another computer...
