I havn't had any problem at all with my new PS3 320GB Slim, do you think they have solved the problem on the new console I have - had it 2 months and hasn't failed me yet (touch wood).

I cannot play modern warfare 2 online. 5 seconds after opening the game shuts down because of the reason for this?

I had the same problem but only found out that I did not have my router enabled for cloning MAC Address. Please enable this and if I'm not mistaken, there should be a button there with "Enable Cloning" or "Enable Mac Address Cloning".
Basically, having a router is to enable you to have more than one connection to the internet via hardware or wireless. All have a different MAC Address assigned to their Integrated Wireless Card or Wired NIC [Network Interface Card}. Sony PS3's or any other device that is enabled to connect to the internet also has this MAC address to. This address is unique and there is no other out there like it or with the same code or MAC Address.
ISP {Internet Service Providers} will sometime not allow their home customes with just a home account to be able to have mutliple PC's on their network as companies have tried this due to high costs for businesses. But now, comes the Router, { A device that allows mulitple PC's to connect by hiding behind the Internet - Somewhat or think of a doorway leading from your house to the outside world}. This gateway, Router, can be used as a deterent from Hacker trying to gain access to a persons PC. I'm not saying they can't but only saying that it takes more time to get through the Router & then to the PC if it's configured properly. Secured & that ports are secured along with changing the passwords as soon as you get them hooked up from Modem via Router, Router via PC or Laptop. As soon as you hook it up you are to make sure you change the password on the Router immediately. The manual for each Router Device has this information in it on how to change the Routers Password.
By allowing MAC Cloning ur are making your ISP think that there is only one PC or Laptop or any device being used on the internet or their network. It sees the router as the PC that was assigned or the PC that had the ISP Softwared loaded onto it. I don't use ISP Software but only configure my PC to see the router & if your not getting a connection then it sounds like you don't have MAC Address Cloning enabled on your Router.
Afterwards, start looking & "READING THE MANUAL" to find out how to set up Port Forwarding on your Router so you're not getting disconnected as much by Sony while being on PSNH or PS3 games. I'm still learning but I'm learning as I go along so I can give it to you.. AMEN!!
BC-AD-Infinity signing off.
PS: Hope this information is good for some. I know, I'm wordy but I'm working on that too.

My Ps3 is getting the following message when my little brother and his friends start playing Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Not sure what that problem is that is causing the error to come up.
"Registration of the trophy information could not be completed.
The game will quit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
