I have to pay for a system setting? *****

PSN+ yeah yeah ecclusive content sure... if there was any but what really gets me angry is having to pay for an exclusive setting?! *****!!!

Can someone explain to me why I have to pay so that my PS3 will automatically update my games? Starting up a game and finding out you need to update it is a pain in the ***** but having to pay for a setting to do it automatically is just plain wrong.

Sony wants to make the PS3 more accessible to casual gamers and yet you make them pay for what is essentially a hardcore service that includes horrible minis and early demos (oh joy).

I have a Sony bravia LCD, sound system, vaio... I have bought sony my whole life starting with a walkman... yes with tapes........... but no more. Sony have dropped the ball big time over the last few years and having to pay an annual subsciption for a setting that should be there from the start is the straw that broke my back!

Wow, a new joiner who has apparently bought Sony products their entire life but has now decided to turn their back on the entire company because of 1setting that is really quite insignificant and that you've already had to live without since launch but is suddenly super important and critical? Colour me sceptical

Yeah i forgot EVERY Xbox account needs to be Gold to play online.. If you dont like PS+ dont buy it Bostrom, atleast the free service is.. uh.. free! The Auto Downloader is crap anyways.

You will have to get used to it. Over the next 12 months there will probably be a lot more new settings & services added to PS+, including the much requested Cross-game Voice Chat. It looks like everything included before the introduction of PS+ will remain free, but the new cool stuff...Anything goes.

Re: I have to pay for a system setting? *****

Its not even an "automatic update" in the background...its a glorified task scheduler that switches on your PS3 and downloads updates...of no use since I switch my PS3 off at the plugs on the wall every night...

..it should be automatic in the sense it trickles it to your PS3 in the background and can tell if you are not using it in online gaming then it would use the full bandwidth available to download...

I disagree.

It costs Sony and content providers money in network bandwidth costs every time someone downloads a patch, demo or video etc.

If everyone had automatic downloads then PSN would be very expensive to run. Especially as a lot of people will be receiving patches for games they no longer play or own.

Well, that's one one of looking at it! Although we are all given the impression that bandwith is not expensive and is unlimited. Especially since we upload and download from free sites like youtube and various other services, without giving a single thought.
