My console is still informing me that the network is under maintenance

Hi There,

I am still having issues with logging into my account on my console, despite the fact I hear the Network is back online.

I have a UK machine which I brought with my to China. I have had a perfectly good connection to the UK store for the last number of months, until the network went down. I waited for a fix like everyone else, downloaded the latest firmware when it came out but I am still being told that the PSN is down for maintenance.

I have been on the phone to Sony support and their rather pathetic advice was to shut my console down and turn it back on again. Funny thing is, that didn't work!

I have since tried to format my machine, but that didn't undo the firmware so that hasn't solved it either.

I can connect to the internet, my machine fails when it tries to log into the network itself. I understand that China is under going some disruption to their internet services as they try to centralise their censors and such, but given that my connection has been fine for so long I'm inclined to think there is something wrong with my machine.

If anyone has any suggestions or technical help I would much appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks.

Mike.

Very poor advice here, but have you any native Chinese friends with native Chinese PS3s who can check to see if PSN-China is up?
Is there a Sony support centre for your new region, or was this *****-poor advice from good old USA or Europe??

EDIT:

See these 2 links for a possible reason as to why:

The relevant paragraph is:

"Sony, which is based in Japan, started to relaunch its PlayStation Network service on Saturday. The company said it would first be made available to customers in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. It didn't say when it expected to bring the service back to players in Japan or other Asian countries."

That could be it, but I'd like a clearer answer.

Does it make sense that my British account is being routed through the Asian Network? If that's the case, and the PSN here isn't online yet then I guess I need to be patient a while longer.

I don't know how these things work though. I was under the impression that my console looked for the European Network and logged into that. I have been able to pay for European products on my British credit card whilst over here.

Thanks for the reply, it's food for thought. In my meantime I can't really do anything. I'll try to keep an eye on when Asia's PSN comes back up.

Thanks,

Mike.

I think, there'd be not many from the UK who would have went to China WITH their PS3 so..............

But, like has been mentioned, why not try a friends PS3 (if you have chinese friends with a PS3 and a broadband connection).
