NAT type 3. Cannot get type 2. done everything possible running dlink d1-624 please help

Ok lads i have turned to the pros now... i have had it with this ***** aye. i have done everything i can think of boys and girls and now i turn to you in order to get nat type 2 or 1 if possible. now all i want to do is play cod6 and enjoy it but i cant even get into a game now... takes forever and i always get booted. anyway i have done research everywhere for this and i cant get it to work...

so i have a D Link DI - 624 Version D2.

now with my PS3 i have manually entered this

Ip addy; 192.168.0.23

ah? 255.255.255.00 or something like that

then the next 3

1:192.168.0.1

2:192.168.0.1

3:192.168.0.1

ok so now i go to my router right and everyone keeps saying you need to change your DMZ to your PS3 Ip address which is above...

so i set ip address for DMZ to 192.168.0.23

do a test then boom Nothing NAT 3...

now someone says oh you need to do a DCHP and enable so i do that and then i click apply on my router and once reset i got back there and it is on disabled and has nothing in the boxes...

please help boys i am so over this technical *****, just want to play my game... thanks

ok...

for starters, reboot everything, just to make sure that whatever changes you have made have 'stuck'.
Often, routers have an 'apply' button, but also need a click on a 'save' button, which annoyingly can be on a different setup screen :smileysad:
Pull the power from your router, and leave it off for 30seconds or so before turning it back on.
Reboot the PS3 normally.

On the router, check that the .23 address is still marked as being the DMZ IP address.
DHCP is the method with the router uses to assign IPs to connected devices - because you have manually assigned one in the PS3, it doesn't matter* that it is off on the router.

On the PS3, check that it is still trying to use the .23 address (it should be - the PS3 is pretty good at saving settings).

run the connection test, and tell us what happens (what passes, what fails, and what NAT you get)

* You may need to turn it back on if you have other devices attached to the router.

* YLOD? * *PSN Connection Problems?* *Blu Ray Problems

And we weren't even testing for that..

ok just reset modem and made sure the router was all saved with the dmz... turned ps back on and did connection test and everything is good except nat type being 3...

ok so here it is on the connection test

signal strength 97%

ssid dlink

channel 1

security none

address settings manual

bla

bla

bla

mtu automatic

proxy server do not use

upnp available

nat type type 3

so now i just went and checked my online router and after the settings were set and i reset the router the dmz is now disabled and no numbers are in the final box...

Re: NAT type 3. Cannot get type 2. done everything possible running dlink d1-624 please help

You don't need to have your PS3 in the DMZ. If you do, then it's quite possibly a configuration error in your firewall settings on the Router that is preventing you getting your PS3 to work properly.

I have all my machines connected through my Router normally, and the PS3 comes up with Nat 2 perfectly fine. And I have 7 machines going through my Router, it also has all the security I need as well.

If people keep saying you need your PS3 in DMZ, then it's probably them having bad configs just as much as you are.

The only time you need the PS3 in the DMZ, is if you want a much faster connection without the hassle of the Router trying to trap incoming or outgoing errors or attempts to hack through the Firewalls.

All the DMZ does, is give your PS3 full unrestricted access to the internet, it's not what your problem is and it will still be there even if you get your PS3 working through the DMZ.

I know that doesn't help you, but sometimes resetting everything back to defaults and letting the Router and PS3 connect through DHCP may actually solve your problems.

If it still doesn't work, then find some info on your Firewall settings in the Router and work on them. You might actually find out what the actual problem is.

Learn how to use your hardware, and don't take everyone elses word that the DMZ is what you need. :smileywink:

Can you have a look at what revision of the D-Link router you have?

It should be on the bottom of the Router. The reason I ask this, is there could be a new firmware for your device as it's now discontinued, but if you've never done a Firmware update, it could be due for a patch that may actually fix any issues with the Router.

Have a look at the sticker on the bottom of the device, then let us know. The D-Link website has about 5 versions, and without knowing which on you have, it's difficult to determine if there are any issues with your Router.

Re: NAT type 3. Cannot get type 2. done everything possible running dlink d1-624 please help

What ISP are you with? Some restrict access to certain ports meaning that getting NAT type 2 is impossible.

You need to check within your router to see what IP address has been assigned to the device and enter this manually on the PS3 you also want to make sure that the same IP address is assigned to the PS3 each time the router is rebooted, and that there are no IP conflicts with other devices on the same network.. 255.255.255.00 (if that's correct) is your subnet mask. Then manually enter the DNS servers.

With regard to trying to put the PS3 in the DMZ (this will only solve any port blocking issues on your home network and won't allow you access to ports blocked by your ISP) you need to make sure that it is the IP address of the PS3 you are entering and not your "default gateway". These values will only differ in the last block of digits. To check your default gateway, bring up the command prompt and type "ipconfig". If the PS3 is truly in the DMZ and you are still NAT type 3, then the issue isn't at your end, in which case it's worth sending an email to your ISP's technical help team to ask which ports they restrict access to. The usefulness of the response will vary from ISP to ISP.

Re: NAT type 3. Cannot get type 2. done everything possible running dlink d1-624 please help

w0w cheers guys for all the helpnow it is a version d2 i looked it up earlier and it says there is no firmware available for the router... next thing i am with telecom. next thing when i rang d link about a month ago i wanted to change all the settings in the router and in the end no settings would stick so what the guy on the other end of the phone said was that your settings wont stick becuase the router is not updated... so he sent me a link which i checked out in the end and it had nothing on my router available.

so i am stuck all i can think of is resseting the whole thing i guess or going into the firewall. now as some of you have said the dmz has nothing to do with it then with my router not be able to save the settings this is not going to work.

and yes my ps3 address is different to my default gateway as i have manually loaded all of this in...

cheers everyone for the fast feed back i am just so stuck and sick of waiting like 30 mins for one game

Did you go to the D-Link website or does your router have the option to link to the D-Link website to search for an update??

If you did it from the Router, check which Firmware version number you are using, and then if it's lower than this version available on this webpage,

http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=TechSupport_C&childpagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLTechProduct&cid...

The latest version is 4.03b14 dated 27/03/2007. If your firmware is lower numbered or lettered than that one, then it's out of date, if it doesn't look anything like that one, then it's quite possibly going to be a problem, or you gave me the wrong model number.

I'm assuming you have the D2G version of the Router, because they don't have a D2??

If you did download this Firmware and tried the Firmware update, then you probably need to try several things.

1.You need to use the firmware stated above if that is the correct model you have and the firmware number doesn't match that number, or try using it again and do another Firmware update if you can. It may fix a bug when it updated the last time, if you ever did do an update before.

2. A factory reset of the Router, which will reset all settings back to a default. You will then need to reconfigure anything you have done before. It doesn't revert the firmware back to an older version though.

3. You need to speak to D-Link and ask one of there techies what you need to do if you can fix it.

4. You need a new Router.
