Newbie Question

Have been using a USB flash drive to copy save game progress as well as the hard drive. However suddenly although the PS3 see's the drive it says "The USB device is locked" and will not allow any any game data to be saved to it. The error code it gives is 80029135.
Have tried using the device on my PC and Mac and there is no problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Newbie Question

If you format the drive, it should work Worked for me anyway

Re: Newbie Question

Thanks for the replies.
Have formated the drive on the PC by right clicking on it in my computer and made sure that it was in FAT32, but when I plugged it in the PS3 guess what?
Yep you got it. Problem was still there.
However I did download some JPEGS on to it and managed to show them on the
PS3 in Photo with no problems?
So now I'm really confused.

Re: Newbie Question

has your usb got a little slider/button on the side, if it has slide it - my old USB had one which locks the USB memory to read-only so you can't write/copy files to or from it  look for this and tell me how you get on. Also make sure the files your putting on the USB aren't read-only, do this by right clicking the files and make sure the "read-only" option is unchecked

Re: Newbie Question

I had this same problem.

Make sure when formatting that the 'Allocation unit size' is set to 4096

On larger USB sticks it can be set higher as standard but the PS3's limited abitlities won't let it read anything but 4096

If it is set wrong simply alter the Allocation unit Size to 4096 using the drop menu in the options when formatting in windows

This has worked for me & several friends

Good Luck

Re: Newbie Question

My Verbatim Store & Go Pin Strip 4 GB stick works now with 2048 (no success with 4096).

Thank you so much for your hint! :smileyvery-happy:
