Hey guys,
Right so here's the deal, I updated my PS3 last night from firmware 3.72 to 4.00 ready for something else. And it still cannot connect to to PSN.
I'm not entirely sure what is going on, the PS3 it's self can connect to the internet
and has successful internet connection, it will access web pages just fine via webbrowser.
The PS3 has connected to PSN before via this very same setup, and I have not modified the configuration
at all since then.
PSN just throws up error code: 80710092
So out of curiosity I decided to find out where this sucker was going, so I opened up my wireshark
and found in order it attempts to connect to these URL's:
fuk01.ps3.update.playstation.net - I can successfully access this url from my PC. Infact I grabbed the update directly from here last night.
the PS3 got a response from this url after requesting one above:
a01.cdn.update.playstation.org.edgesuite.net - Again I can also access this.
then:
playstation.sony.akadns.net - Again also accessable.
...
a192.d.akamai.net - Accessible
...
and finally it attempts to connect to this IP: 77.67.28.26
I cannot ping that IP from my PC even, it just times out. And I'm sure this is where the PS3's PSN is crapping out.
So is this a known issue at the moment? or what?
Here's my config for those interested:
Route:
--PS3 eth0 --> eth1 on my PC (Linux) --> eth0 on my PC --> eth2 on my router --> ISP Exchange --> Internet
PS3 Settings:
Internet Connection: Enabled (Duh)
Connection Method: Wired Connection
Speed & Duplex: Auto-Detect
IP Address: 192.168.2.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Router: 192.168.2.1 (My PC)
Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS)
Secondary DNS: 208.67.222.220 (OpenDNS)
MAC Address: (Hidden)
MTU: Automatic
Proxy Server: Do Not Use
UPnP: Not Available
NAT Type: Type 2
Hope this is enough information for people to be able to help me :-)
Thanks :-).

Okay, nevermind. I fixed the issue :-) - It would seem OpenDNS was failing to reach PSN. I setup bind on my machine and switched my PS3's DNS to 192.168.2.1 and I can now get on PSN again :-).

You could use Google DNS instead of OpenDNS or your default setting DNS i have never had any problems with the Google ones.
Default router as what you currently have.
Primary DNS 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS 8.8.4.4
Thanks :-) - I didn't actually know about Google DNS, I guess it slipped by me. I configured my bind now to forward to Googles DNS (saves changing PS3 settings) I'll see how it goes :-).

I have tried out this for myself, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I get IP address and access to both DNS servers, but when I try to sign-in with my PSN account it is timed out after approx. 30 seconds. This issue happended at noon yesterday for the first time, and I have never had this kind of problem before.
I was planning to call Playstation customer support in Europe today, but I don't know if that helps.
