As an engineering I can tell you that if the system works fine before firmware update then is screwed up after then the update is to blame. Only a person with no real hardware knowledge would say otherwise. Sony needs to test these way better!

Re: HELP - Update 3.42 has crashed my PS3

update 3.42 has made me lose all game saves on my hdd downloaded it then when it installs the bar reaches the end the screen goes black and nothing. I've done a cold start 3 times and its the same every time the install bar then nothing. I've only myself to blame for not backing up the hdd for a couple of months so I've lost my rdr save over 250 hours online

Your rank wouldn't change its stored online not on the console, RDR is the only game i know where mp info is saved on the HDD.

Re: HELP - Update 3.42 has crashed my PS3

I just update mine from v3.41 after trying to avoid updating to 3.42 for a week.

Yes I used the proxy tool and DNS to by passing until I'm sure of the update is stable for me to jump on the boat with. It went smoothly and currenty buying game off PSN and downloading it. No problem at all.

Not all people who use the proxy tool is bad, and not all Jailbreaker are pirate :smileyhappy:

Most Jailbreaker will be pirates but not everyone. Some just want to play their games from HDD.

I would love to do that too, i dislike the disc scanning loading time and noisy seeking.

I really feel for you. Immediately after I saw the FW update notice and accepted the download, I thought "oh sh*t I should have backed up the RDR save". Luckily the update went well but I made a note to myself: "everytime I am prompted to update the FW I will cancel, backup all my current gamesaves and then update the FW".
