When i turn on my ps3 and go to sign in it says i can't sign in on this account, i don't know why this is and how long it will last, can anyone help?

Usernames are not checked manually as they are created. Therefore, if they do have an automatic filter upon creating a username, this would only stop certain usernames that are trying to be created.

There was one username in Home that could have been easily considered offensive and I was tempted to report the name myself. However, I decided against reporting the username as I expected it to have been banned already if anyone found it offensive.

During the time I was around the user, another user stated they're going to report the name. The next day, the user discovered the name was banned and they created a new one.

At the moment, the name seems a likely cause.

Considering you say you are banned, why do you need to question why you cannot sign in? Or are you just assuming because you know your username may be considered offensive...?

If you know you did something wrong (other than possibly for your username), you will need to state what it is to give us a general idea of how long you may be banned for.

 If you don't know that you are banned, you could just be having problems with your internet connection and I would recommend trying again later.

Are you trying to sign in within the game, afet your game has loaded, and then you have toi sign in for multiplayer

If this is the case, you need to exit your game, and go to the xmb, and sign in here, you may find you will have to agree to the T&C again, it seems to be happening to alot of ps3  gamers

Only Sony direct will be able to tell you why you were banned, and for how long, and if it is an account, or a console ban which has been imposed.

All of that detail should be in an email to the email account you signed up to PSN with.

If it isn't, or you can't find it, your only other option is to contact Sony direct -

Names like what? I doubt anyone considers the word in his name insulting because it's primarily another name for a Donkey and it can also stand for a french car, a comic book and a human gene.

It's probably nothing to do with the name and he has just game shared or something, but it's probably best to do what TTDegs suggested and give Sony a call.

You'd be surprised mate, we are talking computers here. So A_S_S has the same value, whether it's a donkey, or someone's bum. Try putting S_C_U_N_thorpe on here, without the underscores. The system picks up another word within it, and assumes you're being rude. That's stupid computers for you
