Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

was just reading the other day an article that suggested that sony may be deliberately keeping the browser behind the times.

the claim was that people would stop buying psn games if they could easily access flash games on the browser.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

I really hope that's no true for it would be a truly petty reason. It would be as if Sony were cutting off their nose to spite their face. Let's hope that Sony prove us wrong and show us that they value the potential of the browser. As I have said before, being able to easily view and browse the net using your HDTV is a wonderful innovation and I believe it's the inevitable future for the internet. We can already see this in the new generation of TVs with rudimentary internet access built in. Of course, these internet enabled televisions have browsers that are far more difficult to use and are therefore inferior to the PS3 browser. That's why I think it would be short-sighted of Sony not to capitalise on the headstart that they currently have and make the browser live up to it's full potential, giving the PS3 yet another great selling point over it's rivals. It is after all supposed to be the ultimate media hub.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

If sony think that I paid 200 and odd pounds to play flash games they must be crazy!

I don't believe that most of the web is using HTML5 atm, it is available but is not been implemented and could take some time.
iplayer uses ADOBE AIR, different name, same disease. From what i've seen it seems okay I don't know much about AIR it might just be a cleaned up version on flash.

A flash 10 update should be standard anyway, might just bundle it up with the next fix.

Also along with the flash 10 update i would like a 4od application, MORE music videos (mebe a top 40 every week or something)
alot to ask i know but might as well try ey!

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

Iplayer DOES NOT use adobe AIR on PS3.

or any any other WEBTV device or even PC/Mac web browser I Dont even have AIR installed but can still run IPLAYER site.

Iplayer on PS3 uses JAVA SCRIPT and FLASH 9 and HTML.

AIR is used is as a DRM system for MAC and PC Download application thats all.

HTML 5 Has a Standard Agreed for Video content which is not FLASH.

Adobe have annoyed some people big time with there rubbish Flash plugin.

IE is again draging behind all other Browser engines again as usual.

Flash 9 Runs alot of sites still. The BBC has ZERO problems running IPLAYER on Flash 9.

ITV, 4 and 5 still have not Built their WEBTV sites and have till the End of 2010 to do so.

Rumours are Five will be first to release their WEBTV site.

They need the WEBTV sites as the mirrors on Youtube Are realy low Quality even on a 15inch monitor yet alone a 50 inch HDTV.

The problem is, html 5, view source >>> see link to video download and share it. No american company would allow their content to be viewable like that and no british one would either, and thats the bottom line, and the reason why flash will be used, so they can encrpyt or encode the links to the content and hide them from the user..

All tv players will make it so you have absolutely no idea where the file you are watching is stored or what its called.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

The PS3's browser really does need an update, because(DRUM ROLL), this forum works better on Netscape Navigator than on the PS3's browser.
I know that the PS3's browser, updated or not, isn't the greatest compared to desktop browsers, and even though it was taken out back and shot,(by AOL in March 2008) Netscape can still use Firefox add-ons, yet with the PS3's browser the phrase 'It either works or it doesn't' describes it perfectly, because if you use the PS3's browser for any amount of time, you'll be used to the message 'This application is not supported' appearing on every website, including PlayStation Blog.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

Yeah! I use the internet browser on PS3 loads. When my computer was broken i even used and keyboard and mouse with my PS3. I think sony did a great job with the browser but i hope they dont let it rot away, loads of people use it.
