Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

Wikipedia is dead on PS3!
On a brighter note, lets make a massive list of things we want on the browser, and then spam Sony with it.
1.Flash 10.
2.Java.
3.HTML5(Theora & H.264)
4.Internet TV option in TV menu(click to be taken to a Video/Game menu PS Store-style menu, with links to Sony Internet TV versions of YouTube, etc)
5.Facebook & Twitter & Bebo & Myspace client in web browser like in-browser Google Search.
6.Firefox Lorentz style "If Flash crashes, the browser won't".
7.RuneScape, Neptune's Pride, DragonFable, AdventureQuest, MechQuest and other online game clients in browser.
8.RSS support.
9.If user find something that don't worky in browser, option to spam Sony via PS3.
10.Video upload feature.
11.HD support(eg. flawless streaming of YouTube HD videos)
12.Built-in YouTube Video downloader.
13.BBC iPlayer downloads.
14.TVCatchup, SeeSaw, Blinkbox, 4Oh!D, Demand Five, STV Player, ITV Player, RTE Player, ABC iView.
15.Adblocker.
16.Pop-up blocker.
17.Built-in email client(eg, PSN Mail)
18.Trend Micro Security for free.
19.Links in Network Menu for PS3 related sites like killzone.com(and optimise them for the browser, while you're at it Sony)
20.PlayStation Blog & Forums apps.

3. Fair enough

6. Mmkay

7. LOL

8. Good idea

9. Considering a lot of people can't string a coherent sentence together? No...

10. You can't record videos unless games support it though... so you'd have to go on your pc, download a video, get it onto the ps3 and then upload it? O.o

11. Youtube HD sucks, fact.

12. Never going to happen.

13. Never going to happen.

14. Youtube has 4od and 5 I think, not sure if it still works though :smileytongue:

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

1.Yes, to play flash games, and 70% of the interweb's videos are in flash format.
2.It powers stuff like LoonScape and games on Blu-Ray movies.
3.And YouTube uses it, so that's another possible future way to get HD YT vids...
4.It wouldn't be hard for Sony to implement, considering they've already done it with their new Bravia TV's.
5.Yeah, Sony should have it in a single 'Clients option, to keep the menu nice and tidy.
6.Google Chrome has had this feature for a while now.
7.I watch Shaun The Sheep as well.
8.Especially as the PSP already has an RSS Channel.
9.Then you've probably not witnessed the car crash that is PS£'s text chat.
10.If Sony do this, they'll have to(if not already) DRM PlayTV files, and Sony might take a dim view on ppl uploading stuff from the PS Store, so they'll probably disable it in the next FW update.
11.Imagine it on a 2.1GHz laptop....ouch.
12.If Firefox can do it.....Sony probably won't bother.
13.Android is getting Adobe AIR 2.0, which is what iPlayer uses for downloads, so there's always the possibility.
14.They do work on YouTube, but p*** poor 360p is painful to watch on a 1080p telly.
15.Because no one likes ads.
16.And the unruly site can just keep sending them....the cycle never ends....
17.I have, crappy plain HTML version of Gmail, bookmark'd.
18.Can't see why Trend Micro bother charging for it either.
19.They should all be accessible from a single section in the menu.
20.Apps would be better, then they would still work if Sony doesn't bother updating the browser for another 2 years.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

When Sony find out that the videos on xbox.com play in the PS3's browser(and you can download tham too), they'll probably disable WMV playback in a future firmware update, due to 'security concerns'.

Specifically it's the videos for the 360 Facebook & Twitter & Zune & last.fm apps that play.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

Read some of this thread and i agree the browser is serious need of a updated.  We also need a better "you tube", i mean whats the point of a hd tv and ps3 if the vids on you tube look like mobile phone footage from the mid 90's!! We should be able to watch the HD vids dam it!  It would also be good if you can use the apps on facebook for those that dont have access to a laptop/pc.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

I really want the browser to be available in-game. It's stupid you need to quit to use it. I just want it for general browsing. Nothing special while I wait during online games.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

That would be handy CardcoptorStacey if you want to dip out of game and check gamefaqs or any other tip sites out most work on the current browser.

Whats shameful is no Playstation Blog videos work they used to before 3.10 official sites should be optimized for the current browser.

HTML 5 Has a Standard Agreed for Video content which is not FLASH.

Adobe have annoyed some people big time with there rubbish Flash plugin.

IE is again draging behind all other Browser engines again as usual.

Flash 9 Runs alot of sites still. The BBC has ZERO problems running IPLAYER on Flash 9.

ITV, 4 and 5 still have not Built their WEBTV sites and have till the End of 2010 to do so.

Rumours are Five will be first to release their WEBTV site.

They need the WEBTV sites as the mirrors on Youtube Are realy low Quality even on a 15inch monitor yet alone a 50 inch HDTV.

er.. very interesting.. but

what on earth has that got to do with op
