Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

Yes mayb they only intend us only to browse Sony network ... the online shop is fine .. but when u browse the net for anything else ... tjek ur email read a pdf file... watch a game rewiew the PS3 browser is not worth booting Seing that next update should contain sony's Cloud .. save games online... Sony have tied themself to Google tv ,,, Theres a Chrome OS (Google)(notebook OS) where all is web based ---> Cloud tegnology ... comming soon. I would REALLY hope that Sony would work even CLOSER with google and outsource the web part of sony to the best ----> Google

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

I am sorry to be such a party pooper or burst anyone's bubble but as much as we want those changes changes to happen, they won't. Sony won't update the web browser for the simple fact that they get nothing in return. It's not like people are paying for those changes, they are free. Because of that Sony has no real motive to do a major update that takes time, manpower, resources, and most importantly money.  Because of those reasons we have not seen a major update to web browser in so long.

What is most likely to happen is that Sony will bring a version of Chrome to the PS3, ChromePS3 if you will, and will make it as a "free Addon" feature for the PS Plus.

Just as side note: IS that happens that it will mark the first time since 1998 that a company charged for a web browser. Even if it's indirectly.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

Google chrome was rejected buy Sony corp EU for Non PC products
So forget about chrome

ALL EU SONY ELECTRONICS Devices in EU = HDTV, BD players, Home cinema, Will HAVE

OPERA BROWSER

Chrome is not chrome unless GOOGLE make it. Sony will insist that the browser be Specific ID as PS3. This means Every site that fails purely because the ID does not have "firefox" in it will still fail.
Youtube.coms crap because they on purpuse disable the PC site their end.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

To reply to Revisionism, you may well be right. However, going by the same logic Sony would've had equally no incentive to add the extra features and other improvements they have already made through FW updates (including the browser itself). Don't forget that Sony have always talked about the PS3 as a multimedia entertainment hub that "does everything". They have also talked a lot about the PS3's intended 10 year lifespan and to achieve that goal they wanted to make changes and improvements to the system over time through their much vaunted FW updates. Sony ought to realise that they need to follow up on their words with action. It isn't enough to add features, they need to ensure that they function properly. Sony should also try to listen a bit more to the feedback they get from their loyal customer base and communicate more effectively with them. That would generate a lot more trust and goodwill which would certainly be good for profits and be in their best interests.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

[ Edited ]

Given the launch of the NGP towards the end of the year, there is actually a very good chance that the browser to be included on the NGP ( "www" icon is prominently featured on the NGP's home page and in game demos) will be also ported to the PS3.

Sony must recognize that if they launched the very impressive and powerful NGP (quad-core CPU and GPU) with the existing PS3's browser (Access NetFront v3.1), they would look very silly. I'm sure they would far rather be able to claim "you can browse the whole internet", not just a handful of sites, without issues. This would also mean that Flash 10.x support must be included. I would agree Opera is the front runner (would then be recognized as a major browser by web sites and therefore supported).

And although Sony couldn't make money directly from including a fully functioning and maintained browser in the PS3, I'm sure the marketing department would be only too happy to highlight the feature in future advertising.

I've played many, many games in the past, but at 41, I prefer to just sit back and enjoy a good movie or TV show (Blu-ray, DVD or streamed on NetFlix), watch the latest gadget videos on YouTube (when I'm not working on bookmarklet - "reboot" is close) and catch up on the latest news on the BBC web site (works pretty well now in the PS3 browser, except you can't play videos...).

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

I think it will be severely embarrassing if the browser isn't updated when the NPG/PSP2 launches and it ends up with a far superior browser than its more powerful big brother hell most phones have a better browser.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

The browser issues is probably the biggest gripe I have with PS3 (well minus the ps2 compatibility or lack there of) The browser definately needs an overhaul it constantly crashes my PS3 and as at the minute my PC has its own issues my PS3 is my only access to hotmail and gamespot I have. But should I need to visit other sites either flash or JAVA fails leaving me frustrated and annoyed so PLEASE Sony get a handle on this.
Nothing worse than climbing the ladder of success only to realise its against the wrong wall.

Re: Please can we have an update for the PS3's web browser?

They won't. As they are ignorant. With the in the past implemented feature to upload your own video to facebook, they've shown they don't care if it works or not. As this feature doesn't functions for the missing adobe flashplayer, which you can't install. As well: Going in facebook, you don't see any news on the main site. You have to put Java in the toolbox on 'OFF' so it works showing your informations from your friends. Yet for other sites in the browser you must put it 'ON' again. What a silly reason. That has changed since they altered the firmware 3.2 as far as I know. And this changes as well. What a silly habit!!! Mentioning this a long time ago. Nothing has happened.
