Hopefully you can retire after TGS. There was no announcement at E3 because US companies don't provide free HDTV content Via the WEB. Which the NA area is allready upset with.
Its all PPV only on HDTVs in US.
Gamescom is to Soon for an announcement.

I've had the same thought, but Wikipedia raises a few interesting issues with regards to viewing web sites on a TV.
If we finally get the announcement that we are hoping for at the Tokyo Games Show (September 15 - 19) and Sony reveals a shiny new, all powerful browser, which renders just about every web site perfectly and in a third of the time as NetFront 3.1, will this be optimized to the max for use on a TV?
I must say Increasing both the font and image sizes on Wikipedia works rather well (I need to try and improve the time it takes for the plugin to process long pages, such as for "PlayStation 3") and makes for a rather pleasing viewing experience (on my 40" 1080p HDTV, at least - I also allow for 720p and 480p resolutions)).
The new PS3 browser could achieve the same thing by offering an "Enlarge" function, which unlike "Zoom" (should also be included), enlarges all content in-place (keeps current window size), by the factor specified, which should have sufficient settings to achieve the same result as I have by alterting the WikiPedia page with JavaScript. It would also need to remember the last setting used for the web site (ideally, have some presets).
Web sites like Wikipedia could aso optimize their site for use on a TV, but presently there are far too few users for them to make the changes required, so better for the browser itself to take the lead.
The browser should also implement "Tooltip's", which are the small popup windows usually shown by browsers for things like abbreviated video titles on YouTube. These should of course be legible on a TV without the need to "zoom" in (standard tooltip's are too small).
So I have my fingers crossed that both we get a new browser and they have at least made a serious attempt to make it really TV friendly
(if not, the bookmerklet may live on - oh no (at least it will likely fly on the new browser)
).

"NA area"?
Yes, this is an industry wide issue, which did not help Google TV in the least (blocked by everyone under the sun).
However, the new browser should at least mean PS3 owners can use top sites like Facebook and YouTube etc and all email sites, like Hotmail.

Well the TGS has been and gone and its now nearly 2 years since this thread was started...
Anyone know if SCE are ever going to deal with this issue?
I for one bought a LED TV and a PS3 thinking I'd be able to watch videos in www.rtve.es and its a total no goer due to the brain-dead browser...

RTVE dont want PS3 users using there PC site, They have a PS3 site under TV/video services on XMB.
As do, 3 ala carta for licensed PS3 content....
If you have a problem with them not providing the content needed you have to contact the Channel provider Direct...

On what do you base that statement that RTVE don't want PS3 users using their PC site?
Firstly it is not a PC site but a Web server. I can access their site with my phone browser and iPad - none of which are PCs.
You could in the past access the live streams and videos until they changed the site to html5. Are you saying they did this to discriminate access through PS3s? Come on...
I can't imagine it is based on the fact SCE provide a XMB shortcut for Spanish PS3s. These are just provided for convinience in the same way we get the iPlayer and the iTV player entries.
Is there any way we can get the XMB entries for 3 or RTVE her in the UK?

You are not allowed to watch Non UK broadcast channels in the UK.
TV companies IP address Block Users out side their country.
but because most TV companies dont know what there doing. you actualy can watch as the IP filters don't work/ not set up.
To get the icons for Non UK content
Create new PS3 user... NOT PSN ID
log in to this user on PS3
Scroll across to PS STORE.
click on PS store
Fill in store details
select the new location (put the country of choice here)
select any date of birth over 18
go into store
leave store.
log out of new user then instantly re login to PS3 on that user.
TV icon will now display ON XMB and the my channels will update.
Download all bookmarks and apps
log out of new user and back to original PS3 user.
Ta da icons are there.
They dont realy care about PS3.
