Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

Ever since updating my PS3 to firmware 4.1 a couple of days ago, I've been having problems with the internet on my PS3. At first I thought there was an issue with my internet, but my internet is just fine, it's only on my PS3 that I have issues.

The first thing that happened was that I couldn't download a patch/update for a game and it took forever for it to eventually download after about 10 attempts because either it wouldn't download at all, or it would stop downloading during the download and eventually say something like: There was error downloading, error code 80710102

Since then, I've been randomly signed out of the Playstation network (can't remember the error code, but I think it was 8002A something) occasionally, couldn't sign into my account (said I was signed out again, different error code though I believe) and had to sign in again, said I was disconnected from my access point (even though I wasn't), Playstation store is loading very slowly a lot of the time and most recently, I was trying to watch a movie on 'lovefilm'; it took forever just to load and when I tried to watch a movie, it just kept pausing every 3 seconds so it was impossible to watch.
Also, not sure if it's related, but after I switched off lovefilm and switched off my PS3, it made 3 quick beeps before switching off. I switched it back on to make sure it was fine, and everything does appear fine and the console switched off normally this time.

Anyway, I just want to know whether this is a problem a lot of people have been having, or whether I should think about having my PS3 looked at. Like I said, this only started happening after firmware 4.1, before that the internet was just fine, but now it's incredibly slow and laggy. Btw, I live in the UK so I'm not sure if that would make a difference with the Playstation network.

I have an old 'fat' 80GB PS3 and a wireless internet connection. Everything else on my PS3 seems just fine except for the internet. I haven't even bothered trying to play games online at the moment due to the slow connection speed so not really too sure what the 'status' on them is like. I should probably note that the internet is sometimes, randomly, perfectly fine, like when it managed to download that patch for my game, but most of the time it has been very slow indeed.

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

I am having the exact same problems with my ps3 and I just came across your post.  I was wondering if you have found any ways to fix this problem?

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

Nope, I'm afraid I haven't found any solutions. I tried searching for this all over google, but it seemed like I was the only one with the issue which is why I decided to create this thread to see if some other people may also have the issue and/or if anyone had some kind of idea on how to solve my problem.

I tried searching up the only error code I could remember and apparently it means there's a problem on your internet's end, but like I said, my internet is just fine and it's running just as fast as it always does on my PC, and it's connected wirelessly to my computer as well. I've tried rebooting my router countless times too, no luck.

Hopefully someone may have an idea what's going on.

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

I am getting similar problems.

Trying to download game updates just don't work. Last time i tried it just says estimated time 2000+ minutes, once even 14000+ minutes.

It's definitely not the internet as i have 100% connection and we have 2 PS3's in the flat and the other can download just fine.

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

The firmware didn't kill your internet connection the 80710102 error is DNS error and the other error i guess your getting is 8002AD23 which is a generic error but can mean DNS, network congestion, poor wifi quality, blocked network ports or simply a router reboot among others can fix that error.

If you can use a wired connection it will most likely eliminate all connection issues if you can't go wired have a look online for homeplugs better alternative to wifi.

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out. Unfortunately I can't make a wired connection to my PS3 since my internet connection/router is in my bedroom and my PS3 is sitting undearneath my 40 inch HD TV in the living room and I'd hate to have to move it away from that TV, lol.

But like I said, I'll check out the links you posted and see if I can find anything in them to fix my issue. I'll reply back here after I've tried out the solutions and see whether or not they solve my problem/

It might be worth while investing in pair of homeplugs if a wired connection is not viable like these in the link roughly the price of a new game.

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

I tried the solution in the bottom link you gave me in your last post, but that actually made my internet A LOT slower so I just decided to revert the DNS back to automatic. I also tried to do a 'connection test' (after I reverted DNS back to auto) and got a pitiful download speed of 1.9 MB and an upload speed of 2.1 MB, even though my PC usually has download speeds of around 30MB most of the time. My connection strength to my router though was 65%, not too bad.

I'll be trying out the first link, the 'DMZ' solution next since that seems like the next most promising. Not sure if I'll have enough free time left with my PS3 today though which is the only reason why I update now before I've tried all the solutions.

My internet did seem generally fine on my PS3 though, PS store was loading just fine and so was the friend list and even the crappy internet browser; it's only LoveFilm that refused to load. I still haven't playing any games online yet though (been hooked on Bioshock) so I am not sure how they'll fair.

Thanks for the link to the homeplugs, I may try and get some if all else fails.

Re: Problems with Playstation network or my PS3?

[ Edited ]

Just tried out the 'DMZ' solution, but the internet is just the same as it was before. I've noticed that the NAT Type is 2 anyway, whether I assign the DMZ or not.

It's somewhat relieving to know I'm not the only one with this issue though, hopefully it means it is indeed a problem with Playstation network that will get sorted out eventually, though I'm doubtful it's a PSN error.

I've noticed my PS3 just seems to 'time out' with the internet. For example, the green light will be flashing one second, and then just stop the next second and disconnect me from whatever it was I was doing (e.g. singing into my account or LoveFilm). And when I go check on my router when the green light stops flashing, the router lights are still flashing like it's still connected, but my PS3 doesn't seem to know my router exists.

I actually just tried playing Black Ops online, combat training actually seems fine, but I can't even get into any proper online matches. What's strange is that nearly a year ago, my router died while on combat training and I got 'disconnected' sine I apparently needed an internet connection to play, but it was running perfectly fine just now despite my sluggish connection speed.

Edit: Oh yeah, also just wanted to add that the ping on my PS3 is apparently 207ms, though the ping is just 14ms on my PC. The connection speed is slower today overall (17.7mb on my PC), but it refuses to go above 2.5mb on my PS3.
