Re: Skype on PS3

BUMP!!

Anybody still watching this thread?....it's been a while.

Obviusly things have changed since the last comments on this subject.

Now Skype is up n running with video chat on the vita, Does anybody have any idea if Skype is to be released for the PS3?

Seeing as we only have voice chat for the purpose of contacting our ps3 buddies via PSV , wouldn't it make more sense to actually utilise the hardware, and in doing so actually help raise the profile of the vita?

Anybody else have a ps3 eye camera that they have to dust regularly?

Now skype is present on the vita I can happily video chat to my sister in sydney on her mac, several friends on ipods, ipads, iphones, android phones and pc's. it's even installed in some smart tvs (hell... I can still use it to voice chat with my nephew on his psp!). I've just heard rumours it's coming to the xbox soon (not surprising as I know skype is now owned by microsoft).

Sony want to push this 'cross-play' functionality of the vita between the handheld and the ps3, yet they seem to be missing a trick here.

So far it looks like the only people not being able to use Skype on the planet are ps3 owners.

I will try get to in touch with skype, and see if there is any feedback on the subject.

Re: Skype on PS3

Just had an online chat with a skype rep:

Hi john. Just a simple quick question. Now got skype on my vita (all good), but do you know of any plans to make skype available on the ps3? I've heard it's in development for the xbox.
10:56:12 John Felix H. says,
If I got you correctly, you want to know if Skype application now available on a PS3 device?
10:58:16 ***** says,
No. I know it isn't currently available for ps3. I just would like to know if it is ever going to be released on the ps3.
11:01:27 John Felix H. says,
We are happy to hear that you are interested to know more about Skype and its availability on a PS3 device. Unfortunately we don't have the update from the development team at this time for future releases. We are constantly working on improvements to Skype, so I'll be forwarding your suggestion on to our development team, who will consider it for future releases. Thanks very much for your input.
11:02:31 ***** says,
thanks john. could you ask them to sort out instant messaging and the ability to add and delete contacts on the vita too?

Nothing there then.:smileysad:

Re: Skype on PS3

Sometimes it does seem that corporations go out of their way to frustrate their customers.  For example, how complicated could it be, really, to let us use Skype on PS3?  <A> -- not very

Do we seriously want this?  <A> -- yes

Does Sony let us enjoy Skype on PS3?  <A> -- no.

Does Sony actually want unhappy customers?  <A> -- Well, ...???

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?
