Hello everyone, many of you are unsure about buying a headset, so here is a small guide to help everyone unsure of headsets.
As you may know there are 2 types of headsets available on the market:
Bluetooth
Connects wirelessly to your PS3 system. Most phone headsets will work with differing performance and quality. Before buying a headset, ask your retailer whether or not it is "PS3-friendly" and if later you find it isn't don't worry return it and find another one. Bluetooth headsets are usually more expensive than USB headsets (see below) but are currently more popular. Most people will recommend a Jabra 125 (priced around £15 depending where you buy) for quality and performance.
NOTE: Not all Bluetooth headsets will work well with the PS3 system.
USB (Universal Serial Bus)
Connects to the front of one of the 4 USB slots in the front of the PS3. It is said to be more reliable than Bluetooth headsets (see above) and are more cheaper. Most PS2 USB headsets will work on the PS3 and if you are looking for a PC headset, please make sure it works on plug-and-play technology or it will not work with the PS3.
NOTE: For those of you with an Eyetoy camera, simply plug it in to one of the USB ports and it can work as a mic with extremely good quality.
Pairing (Bluetooth)
For a Bluetooth headset, make sure the device is fully charged and make sure it is turned off. Then go to the far left until you stop on a icon that says 'Settings' and looks like a tool box. Scroll down until you reach an icon that says 'Accessory Settings' and looks like a traffic light. Press X and then again on 'Register Bluetooth Device' Select Headset, then hold down the power button on the headset for 10 seconds (if it has a light, it should glow consistantly, if after 10 seconds its flashing, you've done it wrong). The PS3 should now scan for your headset. Once it has found it, it will ask for your headset pass key, most headsets use the default '0000' but if you are unsure, check your headsets manual. It will now be paired to your PS3. Congrats
Pairing (USB)
Plug in your USB Headset cable into one of the 4 ports in the front of the PS3. Then go to the far left icon that says 'Settings' and looks like a tool box. Scroll down until you find an icon that says 'Accessory Settings' and looks like a traffic light. Press X then again on 'Audio device settings' Go to input and press X and press up until you find it says 'USB Headset' press X then repeat the process for output and then go down to OK and press X. It will now work with your PS3. Congrats
Testing out your Headset
To test your headset, go to the 'Settings' icon and then select 'Accessory Settings' where it says 'Audio device settings' Press X. There will be a bar above and talk into the headset, you should see the bar move. If not check if your headset is plugged in or properly paired up. NOTE: This can also be used to connect to your Bluetooth headset, by doing the same with the headset and just pressing connect on the PS3.
Thanks I hope this helps!
