rockstar just said that firmware 3.61 is causing older ps3 models to freeze and overheat (ylod) when playing L.A NOIRE!!
Quote:
We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.
Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or "Red Lighting" after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.
At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.

The name of this post doesn't make sense, it needs to be changed to:
a) Totally disgraceful.
b) Total disgrace.
And they say GCSE's aren't getting easier.

I guess if you were worried about the security loopholes created by the old PS3s and their "Other OS" feature, that would be a good way to kill them off. ![]()

how the hell can a firmware cause overheating exactly ????
Firmware updates cause all sorts of problems - http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6314530.html?tag=newst
I updated my very first Xbox 360 (The first batch of white ones/heaps) after being off line for a few months, it was when the new and improved XBM came in, after it had updated to the crap I didnt want it utterly fried the graphics chip in it. I wasnt very happy at the time but looking back it was a god send to be honest. The crud machine kept scratching discs left right and centre.

Yes, I wonder if they either realised they were wrong or Sony have threatened them with some legal activity.
Sony have enough problems I think without Rockstar putting that info up which, to my knowledge, has not undergone any "proper" testing or is proved in any way.
In fact wasn't their some bad feelings going on a couple of weeks ago with Rockstar and Sony?
Not to mention Rockstar pointing out how much the PSN downtime has cost them financially.

Because blaming Sony is easier/cheaper than admitting you cocked up your code?
