Can playing the PS3 alongside any online games (such as Battlefield/Call of Duty) be significant enough to throttle your connection?

I don't know what my exact limit is but I've heard assumptions of around 3GB. To be honest I'm not that well educated in the tech world to understand how long that will last.

It's almost as if my connection is being constantly throttled (I play a lot of Battlefield 3 with my friends). I have a 32Mb/s connection which is going to be upgraded next month to 64Mb/s, but my connection having feeling like it's being constantly throttled I am getting results of only 12Mb/s... I'm wondering what I'll get when I eventually get that upgrade; not like it's going to help.

It is a joke, you're not paying for what you get and it's made a lot of people angry.

Edit: I have 2 consoles and 4 laptops on the same connection.

To be honest online gaming uses very little bandwidth some ISP's throttle peer 2 peer connections at peek times. 

You will use a hell of lot more bandwidth downloading or streaming tv like BBCiplayer and lovefilm etc. 

I was reading my ISP's terms and conditions on fair usage policy earlier. They will throttle peer 2 peer in the evening and prioritise gaming traffic etc.

Currently on Orange which basically is BT wholesale 5 to 7 meg down steady 1 meg up. 

It does me for what i need it to do gaming and catch-up tv only downloads are usually via PSN. 

Probably switching to BT Infinity FTTC shortly 40/10 should be the initial speeds we get increasing to 80/20 later.

I'm with Virgin and I found out that at daytime from the hours of 10am-3pm I am able to use 7GB of data before penalisation, during the evening 4pm-9pm is half (3.5GB). Unfortunately I'm rarely on during the daytime to eat all that data.
