I suggested this very concept on the EU PSN Blog last year, the response was very positive from other users. I too would love to use my fallout trophies as avatars - PIPboy FTW.

they could do it easy. All the trophy images that you have unlocked are stored on their servers already, I know this because when I log into the PSN App on my iPhone I can see them, along with all my friends trophies.
And they are visible when you compare trophies. So it's not a copyright issue. People who have not bought the game already have access to the image.

From xmb select trophies, scroll to the one you want, Press triangle, select use as avatar. It should be as easy as that.
I still think you should only be able to use trophy images that you have unlocked.
